This is your retro diner of the 80s and 90s. Walking in the atmosphere is fun and energetic, wide variety of music playing from Fleetwood Mac to All She Wants To Do is Dance by Don Henley. Our table was covered in music trading cards, great conversation starters. Our table was across from the bar, high top, tons to look at, eclectic. Our waitress Alex was very friendly and attentive, food came out fast and the restaurant was pretty busy for brunch on a Friday. We did not drink but the bar boasted a mimosa flight and Bloody Mary's that looked like meals. The food. The, food, options galore on the menu, true breakfast, brunch, lunch options, sweet and savory. We started with breakfast egg rolls, let's be honest, why are more foods not served in egg rolls. Eggs, cheese, homemade corn beef hash, accompanied by a hot honey dipping sauce. Keep this sauce to add to your main meal, it is fire. Irish Benny, homemade hash, thick English muffin and homemade hollandaise sauce, substitute sweet potato hash, could have used just a touch of fry on the potatoes to elevate the flavor. Sklarmageddon Omelet, hidden gem on this omelet is the maple sour cream, the touch of sweet you would be looking for to cut through all the meat. Sour dough toast had the perfect texture and flavor. But ... the real win today was the upgrade to the giant taters tots, served in cheese sauce, with cheese inside and deep fried .... cheese in cheese, the only appropriate answer is YES. Go here, eat here, love it here.

I recently visited The Friendly Toast in Boston’s Back Bay, and it quickly became one of my favorite brunch spots. The moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by a vibrant, retro-inspired atmosphere filled with eclectic decor that added a fun and welcoming vibe to the dining experience. The menu was impressively diverse, catering to various dietary preferences, including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free options. I decided to try the “Hash Quiche,” which was a delightful combination of cheesy eggs accompanied by a fresh fruit salad . The flavors were rich and satisfying, making it a standout dish. My friend opted for the “Breakfast Burrito,” which was generously filled and packed with flavor. The portion sizes were substantial, ensuring we left feeling full and content. We also shared the “French Toast Monster,” a cinnamon raisin French toast served with bacon, eggs, and home fries. It was a perfect blend of sweet and savory, and even though we got it to-go, it remained fresh and delicious . The service was prompt and friendly, with staff members who were attentive and eager to ensure we had a great experience. Despite the bustling environment, our food arrived quickly, and the staff maintained a cheerful demeanor throughout our visit. Overall, The Friendly Toast offers a unique and enjoyable dining experience with its creative menu, generous portions, and lively atmosphere. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable brunch spot in Boston.

Overall 4/5 This place used to be AMAZING but I think the quality has gone down a bit after the expansion and addition of many other locations. The service is still great and I love the imaginative and creative menu but I hope next time I dine here my food is warm. Food 3.5/5 Huevos Rancheros The best part about the dish is the chimichurri sauce. The home fries were alright but also cold. I wish the food didn't come cold and that the portions were larger. Breakfast Burrito This definitely wasn't bad flavor wise but it was also not warm. I wouldn't get it again. Service 4.5/5 When we arrived the host told us there was a 45 min to an hour wait and we put our names on a waitlist for 2. I got a text 10 minutes later that our table was ready. Our waiter was attentive and came right up to us. Ambiance 5/5 Quirky and fun is the name of the game for The Friendly Toast. You will find odds and ends and knick-knack all over the walls and hanging from the ceiling at this restaurant. Some of my favorites include a KFC chicken bucket lamp and a giant hanging seahorse statue.

We found ourselves at the Portsmouth airport early one morning to have our passports renewed [long story about an emergency!] before we flew to Florence the next day. After they took our information, we were told to return in 3-4 hours, We asked if there was a funky breakfast place nearby, and they enthusiastically recommended The Friendly Toast! When we walked in, we immediately loved the decor, and we were met with upbeat staff, who showed us to our table. We loved looking at all the interesting, eclectic pieces & furnishings everywhere we looked. The menu was another adventure that we enjoyed! I quickly opted for the Bloody Mary as a reward for our early morning drive from the south side of Boston. It didn't disappoint, and neither did our tasty menu selections - we shared an omelet and a Benny. Delicious! After breakfast, we thoroughly enjoyed our walk about various streets, looking at stores, restaurants, and bars. It has been years since we were in Portsmouth, but we can't wait to return.

As you can see in the pictures, the ambience resembles a true 1950's diner with tones of memorabilia to be appreciated while waiting for the food and a bright green wall painting that really hits your eyes. So I would give 5 stars to the atmisphere. The Menu is vast and I am always suspicious how they can cook so many different dishes at once. Yet the service was quick and presentation was appetite enhancing. The tastes were so so, with the chicken a bit dry, corn salsa lacking taste and a hamburger that resembled beef patties, bought frozen, at a Walmart Store. Orleans fries are a novelty. So the food gets 3 stars max. The drinks were okay, perfectly acceptable bloodymary and good beer that deserve 5 stars. The service was fast, but we get napkins only after waiting and reminding twice. Water glasses were never filled again. We were not asked whether we wanted deserts or coffee and were presented by the bill immediately. We got good food suggestions though, so the service gets 3.5 stars.
