Perfect Spot for Drinks & Relaxation Stopped in to kill some time and ended up having a great experience that exceeded expectations. What Makes This Place Stand Out: Excellent Beer Selection: Outstanding draft beer variety Great mix of local New Hampshire brews and popular favorites Something for every beer preference Top-Notch Service: Welcoming atmosphere from the moment we walked in Attentive and friendly staff Fair and reasonable pricing Comfortable Environment: Effective AC - perfect relief on hot summer days Multiple TVs with diverse sports programming Clean, well-maintained space Accessibility: Appears to be ADA accessible throughout all areas Thoughtful layout that accommodates everyone Perfect For: Casual drinks with friends Watching sports games Beat-the-heat refuge during summer Supporting local breweries Anyone looking for a no-frills, quality tap house experience Bottom Line: Sometimes the best experiences come from the simplest places. Thirsty Moose delivers exactly what you want from a local tap house - great beer, good service, fair prices, and a welcoming atmosphere. Would I return? Absolutely. This is the kind of local gem that makes Portsmouth's dining scene special. Highly recommended for: Beer enthusiasts, sports fans, anyone wanting a relaxed drinking spot with solid fundamentals done right.

Great watering hole, ton of beers on tap, plenty of good grub to choose from, two bars upstairs and one with live tunes downstairs. We stop here on our way up to our Maine cottage at least once a month. Lively bar, usually packed with college kids or tourists looking for a hopping spot. It’s a long narrow restaurant with plenty of bar room (fills up quick), high top tables (fill up quick), or standing room (also fills up quick). This place is the spot to be if your looking to turn up or pre gram. Tunes are always playing, ton of big TVs for the game, maybe 50 beers on draft, and the best smoked wings around. We started with a couple brews, I got a local IPA and switched over to heavy poured jack and coke, perfect. We got the wings (sauce on the side, saucing these is a true sin), added some moose rolls that were tasty, and really good buff chick dip. The grub was so good I forgot to snap pics. Service was great, bartenders are friendly and attentive but not bothersome. Only thing, parking can get rough cuz dtown Portsmouth can get craZy. But don’t let that stop you.

During our recent day trip, we enjoyed lunch at the Thirsty Moose before heading home. This restaurant has an impressive selection of beer, cider, hard seltzer, a full bar, and non-alcoholic drinks. Their expansive bar is backed by a continuous wall of TVs and more dot the walls of the dining areas. The open restaurant has plenty of seating, especially along the bar. Their menu has all the classic pub food, some with an inventive twist and clever names. They have a gluten-free menu available but not a dedicated fryer. I really enjoyed my cauliflower crust Greek pizza, and my husband thoroughly enjoyed the Bullwinkle burger and was able to upgrade it to two patties. Our server, Sean, was attentive, friendly, and made sure our experience was perfect. This is an excellent location to stop by for a meal for solo guests, couples, families, or groups. We'd definitely come back to Thristy Moose the next time we're in the area.

The food was decent, not great but decent (we usually love Thier food). Burgers werr a little over cooked but otherwise good. However the service was horrendous tonight. It was busy, but not so busy the service should be that bad. The waitress was so rude, took quite some time before she even came to ask about drinks(and appeared to be completely annoyed and inconvenienced to have to ask us), by the time we ordered food we had already been there 45 minutes. She came out once to ask if we needed anything, one person said water and she walked away quickly and without a word so I couldn't even request a beverage. She came back left the water without a word. Later comes over and asks about boxes we say 2 please she comes back leaves them on the table not a word. 10 minutes later, asks if we want our check. She didn't ask if we wanted to split the check or if we wanted dessert or anything else. She brings the check and says a half hearted "have a good night," as she is walking away. My baby started to fuss a bit and she turned quickly giving her a dirty/annoyed look. Mind you my baby was so well behaved the 2.5 hours we were there. And the whole visit should not have taken that long. We had friends from out of town who had never gone to a Thirsty Moose and we wanted to take them as we have always had good food and service in Dover and the one time we went to the Portsmouth one a couple years ago. Very upset with this experience and will not be returning to this location for a bit, especially as it is a bit out of our way. I hope that waitress gets more practice and patience and that she was just having a rough night. Otherwise, she may want to seek a different type of job as her interpersonal skills, or customer service skills are...

Stayed at a hotel in downtown Portsmouth and decided to check this place out after having it recommended multiple times. Everything was great: food, drinks, music etc. until we decided to go to the bathroom. With being of legal age, me and a friend had been vaping and didn’t see a problem with it (there’s no signs or policies listed against smoking/vaping anywhere in the building or website). We went to use the bathroom and the woman working/guarding it began screaming at us with utter disrespect. We had no idea, we had never been there before and told her that, she said she’d give us a chance but if she saw us vaping again she’d take our vapes away. Although we were thankful for this so called ‘mercy’ and showed it, she remained rude and disrespectful. Then when we got into the bathroom we went into a stall with a group of 3 (which had been acceptable at every bar we have been to previously). Two seconds in the stall she was banging and screaming on the door telling us only one person in a stall at a time. We quickly got out and faced her in the bathroom where she rudely mentioned having already given us a chance with the rules. I immediately told her I was so sorry, this was my first time here, I’m from out of town and I had no idea. She showed no care, gave me a nasty stare and left the bathroom. We immediately left the bar entirely after being treated with such rude behavior from someone that should be welcoming. It was shocking to be treated with such disrespect with no warning whatsoever of the rules or what they entailed. Absurdly rude behavior from this one woman guarding the bathroom, I hope nobody else has to...

My fiancé and I went Saturday 3/18 at 4:45. We were interested to see the renovations. We have been 3-4 times previously and it was fair-good. This day it was packed. There was a 15 minute wait for a table but we were trying for seats at the bar. The bar was understaffed, which we get, lots of places are. We always bring our patience. However, so much was wrong aside from the number of staff. They were not ready for this re-opening and it showed in the service. We eventually got seats at the bar. We were lucky to get a beer. After an hour, that’s all we got. We couldn’t get anyone to take our food order. The four bartenders were all in the weeds. The couple next to us sat without being acknowledged for 20 minutes, but they were good about it also. We felt for the staff. Four managers appeared at different times and none cleared the dirty food dishes that had been sitting in front of people for ages or got anyone a drink. The stuff that would have really helped. Meanwhile at any given time we could see 3-4 hostesses standing at their station talking doing nothing. No manager thought to utilize one to bus the bar. Just incredibly poorly run. Eventually, we left to eat at Bugr-Bar, which was fantastic. The renovations look good, they have a good beer selection. I wouldn’t go back, at least not when it’s busy. The staff was working hard to get through, management...
