Thyme On The River — Restaurant in Portsmouth

My sister in law and I went today at 1pm for lunch. First where the restaurant was located is very good right near the water and next to the drop on off Elizabeth River Ferry which is great however the service was terrible from start to finish. When we got there no one was there to greet us until about 15 minutes later: second when we were seated it was a nice view of the water but the table was bare no decor, no silverware just bare and table was very unstable. Beautiful building but the wood floor were very very dirty now we were there at 1pm there is no way those floors would have gotten that dirty they looked as if they were dirty and with food crumbs for more than one day: while seated we waited for almost 25 mins till we received a menu and the guy that gave us a menu told us he will be back with water that took another 25 mins, when we finally got water we asked him so where is the drink menu we finally got that. I ordered the jerk chicken eggrolls and yams, my sister in law ordered the crabcake sliders with fries and yams. We waited about 40 mins till we got our food we also waited for our drinks I had the pears and potion mix drink and she had the utopia drink: The food was excellent and the drinks were amazing which kind of took away from waiting so long to get food and drinks until when we were ready for the check that was an additional 30 mins I guess the owner came to our table and apologized for the service explained workers not coming to work etc. when it was time to pay never received a receipt just pay on hand held card check out machine so I asked for copy of my receipt that took 20 more mins and while waiting the waitress that checked us out proceed to get her drop of order of food from Bojangles at front door before bring me a copy of my receipt. This was my first experience my husband brought me here for Mother’s Day dinner it was horrible the water taste like card board we ask for a sprite there was no carbon for the third drink we got coke and a medal pin was at the bottom of my husband drink I order a salad I got my food first 20 to 25 minutes before they brought out my husband food my salad was good it just seem like they didn’t have ranch to spare I had to ask three times to get some I got it twice third time I was ignored my salad was almost gone before my husband got his food it was horrible I was so disappointed especially being that we only came to support or black people we was told it was black owned you guys definitely need to do table touches and come out check on tables at least every ten minutes our server gave us our food we haven’t seen her since the fasted thing we got was to go boxes and that’s because another server came bye we have now been sitting here 7 minutes waiting on a check so we can go to apple bees to have a decent dinner together eat it together they need help struggling I have been a general for ten years I would never ever let my employees treat my business like this periodt management teams needs to be more active on the floor she finally came back my ticket was 32 dollars an I’m going to spend the same and get better service I normally leaves big tips I didn’t tip at all since it took three tries it wasn’t right my husband didn’t drink anything with his food oh yeah we saw our server gave us three times unbelievable one more thing I understand scaling back because of food cost but need to do more in between to satisfy your customers we was there way longer than a hour it 6...

I have to say we're on the fence with this restaurant. We went there tonight about 6:20pm. We walked in, and the woman at the counter was on her phone. We stood there because we weren't invisible but we stood. I then excused myself and asked her if we should seat ourselves. She said, 'No, but we only have outside seating'. (But there were plenty of empty tables.) We said fine. She said, 'You go out the door to the left' and went back to her phone.😲 Okayyyyy, I'm keeping it cool, BUT that's ONE. On TWO, I usually take my money elsewhere, but we want to support our local community. Fortunately, when we went over there, we met the waiter Rodney 😇. He was working hard trying to accommodate those of us outside. However, we didn't get our appetizers until 7:30pm. Tables of other customers were leaving upset. The salmon bites we ordered did not deliver any Caribbean flavor, which was disappointing after that wait, but the jerk chicken egg rolls had a nice kick. By 8:20, that was TWO, and we were leaving too. We felt soooo bad for Rodney because it wasn't his fault. Unfortunately and unbeknownst to us when we got there, they were hosting a party. They had all the food and were partying good. The food that was being served looked delicious though as it passed us. We were really hungry 😕. Rodney was so apologetic and nice to us, we WILL try again. BIG BIG THANK YOU TO RODNEY FOR SUCH GREAT SERVICE UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES!
