Balneario La Monserrate Luquillo Beach — Attraction in Puerto Rico

One of my favourite beaches for years and there’s a lot of particulars to be aware of.

First, very calm and clear ocean water with lifeguards and has become more family friendly with the passing years. Since it’s a well managed beach it stays mostly clean but can be challenging on holidays and long weekends.

$4 parking, $2 bathroom / shower use (9am-5pm) all day fee, opens at 9am and entrance closes at 5pm (exit stays open).

Souvenir shop that also sells beer, soda, water.

Several small food / beverage stands with diverse offerings and reasonable with prices.

Umbrella / chairs rentals available ($10 per chair, $15 per umbrella) and if you ask for your setup to be beyond a certain distance you must leave a driver license with the attendant (I question this requirement given identity thief) so you might want to bring your own just in case.

Beautiful beach on north shore, about 45 minutes east of Isla Verde. Easy drive. $4 per car to get in - must pay by credit card. Cash not allowed. Not sure if they take Apple Pay either.

The water is in a protected cove of sorts. It’s roped off far enough out to allow swimming but to keep out boats from entering. The slope of the beach is gentle. It’s ideal for children.

There is a large parking lot. You can rent chairs and umbrellas. You can rent a kayak for 90 minutes for $10. It’s $2 to use bathroom/showers. Free, ample parking. Good stretch of beach. The water temperature was perfect on an 86-degree F day. It was pretty shallow and easy walk into the water. Soft sand. Did not like how the free facilities for restrooms and showers were left in disarray and really gross. The clean showers and bathrooms are available for a fee. Lots of food and bevvie vendors. Also, tourist vendors like the parrot photo experience. You can find water sports activities such as kayaks and jet skis. There are plenty of lifeguards on duty. Great spot for families.
