Before I begin this review, let me first state my credentials because in a sea of mostly positive reviews, my more than fair assessment on the pizza from this shop may look like it’s coming from someone who doesn’t know anything about Pizza.
I grew up in New York and have tried pizza from just about 60 percent of various pizza shops across all the five boroughs. I also made many trips to Italy and enjoyed various pizzas from Rome, Naples, and other cities. I even took pizza making courses in Italy. Everytime I venture away from NY, I’m always on the search for a great slice of pizza. Many times you see restaurants market themselves as NY style pizza, but many fall short for various reasons.
I watched a YouTube video and saw the reviewer stopped by Revolution Pizza Shop restaurant and it peeked my curiosity because from what I was watching on the video, the pizza looked quite amazing. So now that I’m in the town of Luquillo, I wanted to see if the hype I had built up in my head for this place would become a positive reality.
Upon arriving to this restaurant in the evening, it was very busy. Usually that’s a very good sign that the place is popular amongst locals and tourists. I watched the owner and his staff make various pizza for about twenty minutes and can immediately tell that pizza owner knew what he was doing. Alot of times I’ve seen people make pizza and they usually look like they’re just going through the motions, making pizza with absolutely no love at all. Not this place, you can tell they wanted to make good pizza for all to enjoy.
I ordered a Margherita pizza pie and I have to say, visually, it looked amazing. Ingredient looked great, the pizza had a nice crust and look to it. It felt right in the hand with a nice hand feel. I was so very excited to try the pizza because it had already passed the visual test. And after trying several slices it became clear to me that the taste of this pizza came short. In a word, it was bland. A bit flavorless. The tomato sauce flavor wasn’t robust. It was actually very unnoticeable. The cheese was ok at best, but again, not much going on there as well.
Overall, just wasn’t what I was expecting and I was a bit disappointed. It looks like it has amazing potential to be so much more, but it never quite got there. A shame because I can tell the owner and the staff take pride in making these pizzas, but perhaps I caught them on a busy night where things were perhaps rushed a bit? Or maybe it was a just an off night for whatever reason? Not sure. I will give this place another go and update my review because it really, REALLY does have the potential to be such a great pizza, but the flavors fell quite short. For the time being I’ll give it three stars, based on good portion sized pizza and potential. But is there anything more disappointing than when potential is unrealized? I’ll cross my fingers the second go around turns out to be...
Read moreFood and drinks all tasted very good and the atmosphere is fantastic. My family and I (party of 4) watched Sunday night football (Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles on Jan. 26, 2025) game here and we arrived with 8 minutes left on the clock in the 2nd quarter. The reason why I am giving this review 2 out of 5 stars instead of a higher star rating is because of the poor service and insane wait times for our food.
We arrived roughly at 5:30 pm with an open-mind and ready for a good meal. We had to wait a bit for the server to arrive and take our order (not completely unexpected since the place had many patrons at this time), but we were ok with that. My family and I ordered our food and drinks at 5:46 pm and received our drinks (as pictured) roughly 30 minutes later. My family and I didn’t completely mind because the atmosphere was very lively and we were (at the time) more interested in the game than the food.
As time went on the server would continuously apologize for the long wait time and provided us complimentary drinks and promises (multiple over an extended period of time) that the food would be out shortly.
Despite promises and apologies, we were left waiting… and waiting… and waiting… for the food to arrive. When food did arrive, it was always piecemeal. They didn’t bring out the full order but only 1 or 2 dishes at a time. This resulted in us having to watch one family member receive and eat their food while the rest of us could only watch. By the time our food order was completed in its entirety, the game was almost over and it was past 7:30 pm! We ended up having to take the rest to go since we were now so annoyed that we didn’t want to be at the restaurant any longer.
It is sad that I have to rate this restaurant so poorly because it has so much going for it. It has a great atmosphere with an amazing placement next to the beach. The food was delicious when we received it, but a 2 hour long wait for bar food (and 30 minute wait for drinks) is ridiculous. The main problem seems to be the lack of leadership and communication between members of staff and management. Bar food like chicken wings should not take 1+ hours to serve to customers, people should not have to wait 2 hours to receive their pizza order.
Overall my family and I were very disappointed in our experience, and we will not be coming...
Read moreAstoundingly bad service. In short, we left after an hour and five minutes without receiving any food or any apology. If you don’t want to risk sitting around for an hour with nothing to show for it, you will skip Revolution Pizza.
We arrived and were seated promptly. After that no one greeted us for quite some time. After about 15 minutes with no contact, I started the timer on my phone. I then waved down someone on staff (t+15) and about five minutes later our sever came and asked for our orders (t+20). We ordered several drinks, a pizza, and a side. Several drinks eventually arrived (t+32) but one was forgotten and arrived later (t+38).
At this point I was still optimistic that we could have a decent dinner. Front of house seemed disorganized, but the pizza guys were clearly cranking out pizzas. Unfortunately, my optimism was misplaced! We continued to hear nothing from our server as the drinks ran dry and the children became restless. Finally (t+65) she returned to say “I have some bad news. They don’t have the shrimp for your pizza. Would you like to order something else?” At this point I threw down cash to cover our drinks, grabbed the kids, and departed. Stopping to complain that she could have told us they were out of a key ingredient 40 minutes ago, she replied only “it’s not my fault, it’s not my fault” and then started yelling at me to leave while the kitchen staff tried to tell her to stop fighting. At no point did anyone apologize for any of the many delays or mistakes.
Now, sometimes good restaurants have slow service, and sometimes good kitchens run out of ingredients. But it takes a uniquely bad restaurant to manage to combine those things into ignoring patrons for the better part of an hour and leaving them with nothing. There are 80 kiosks in Luquillo. Why not choose one that one that knows how to serve customers well, like Edelweiss, Wepa...
