When I turned 50, I decided I needed to up my workout game. I had always done cardio several times a week and minimal strength training. I felt I needed to work on overall strength, flexibility and cardio to remain healthy and strong as long as possible. My niece and nephew who are an athletic trainer and ex military, respectively told me about crossfit. I was intimidated to try it and scared I could not “keep up” or might injure myself after two knee surgeries. Boy! Am I glad I didn’t listen to my insecurities! Catoctin Crossfit really lives up to it’s motto, “Life Changing Fitness.”
I was welcomed into their community from the first day by the wonderul coaches and members. The coaches started me off with workouts that challenged me but that I could actually do. I have built up to doing things I would have never thought possible when I started. For instance, I could barely do a lunge without falling, hurting my knee and only with body weight. Now, 9 months later, I can do many lunges confidently and with low weight. That is just one example.
Another bonus, my knees are so much better than they were before due to strengthening of the surrounding muscles. I am stronger and more sure of foot as I engage in my daily activiites whether it is filling up big horse buckets with water and carrying them out to our dogs or running a large load of laundry upstairs. Although I could do those things before, now they are much easier for me.
I have always preferred to workout on my own due to schedule and just my overall independent nature. I have a nice home gym and still use it in between workouts at CCF but just know how to use it better. However, I want to tout the benefits of CCF as a fitness community. The coaches and other members are so encouraging and helpful, and it helps you to feel like you can do more than you think you can on your own. It is a “life changing” way to work out.
Keep up the...
Read moreI've been coming to Catoctin Crossfit for a little under a year now, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it has changed my life, and will forever be one of the best decisions I've ever made. I've never been able to motivate myself over a long period of time with any kind of gym membership or self guiding. I came in with pretty much zero experience in weight lifting or exercise in general. I was looking to challenge myself and I have not been disappointed. Head Coach Zach and the other assistant coaches like Adam, Chuck, Marcus, and Logan all play their part in making sure you get what you need from each workout and that you are performing each movement safely and effectively. Catoctin Crossfit provides a fantastic emotional atmosphere as well, as the community is so supportive and welcoming. What really locked me in though, and what makes Catoctin Crossfit so special, is Zach (Head Coach). Zach is devoted to his craft and will help you to become the best physical you you can possibly be. He will dedicate himself to your training and will not give up on you but will continue to push you to your limits (safely of course). Catoctin Crossfit has become my home away from home. To anyone looking for a great place to get fit and have fun doing it, look no further. The gym has several class times to fit a myriad of busy schedules and the monthly fee is more than worth it. Workouts are dynamic, fun, challenging, and anything but monotonous. In what feels like a short time that I've been here: my energy is up, my mood is consistently positive, and I'm the most happy and confident with my body than any other time in my life. Go for it, you...
Read moreZach and his team at Catoctin Crossfit are the finest coaches with whom I have ever worked. Not only are they experts in fitness and wellbeing, but their collective coaching style genuinely taps into every client’s very best performance and effort. They are pretty much magic-workers that way.
Sometimes crossfit gets a bad wrap because it’s perceived as wreckless. Let me put your mind at ease - every workout can be altered and the coaches at CCF encourage responsible fitness inline with personal needs and limitations. The beauty and magic of CCF coaches is that despite having a large client base, they genuinely care about every athlete - they identify and remember our limitations and strike a perfect balance between maximizing our effort and protecting our health. Moreover, CCF offers much more than lifting weights and high intensity workouts - from yoga to mobility clinics, CCF promotes whole wellness. I have always been truly impressed with their approach - it’s something I’ve never seen offered elsewhere.
Beyond the expertise and phenomenal workouts that I’ve found in CCF, I’ve also found an entire family of amazing and diverse athletes. CCF is the foundation of an entire community based on support, encouragement, grit, and a lot of sweat. It’s a beautiful thing and I am beyond grateful to be a part of it. It is an understatement to say I recommend CCF - if you are just beginning your crossfit journey or if you are looking for a new place to continue it, CCF is the place....
