I hate this boutique for several reasons. Before I explain why, let me give you a little background. My sister is getting married this summer in Seattle. I live in the DC area as do two other bridesmaids. Another bridesmaid is in Chile and the last is in Seattle. My sister found a dress she liked that we would all be able to order from wherever we decided. I decided to order mine through Something Blue. I was going to be in Seattle early April and I figured if I ordered my dress in December it would be there late March. I could pick it up, get it fitted if need, and then just leave it at my parents’ house. And then Something Blue happened…
They refused to order me my size. I got married two years ago and my wedding dress was a size 4. I am the exact same size I was two years ago. I told the sales-lady over the phone I am a 4. She refuses to believe me, asked for my measurements and then tells me she’s going to go ahead and order me a size 6. I tell her again that I am a size 4, I am not a size 6, that will be too big. She says ordering a size up is the smart thing to do and tells me again that she is ordering me a size 6. I just got my dress and tried it on. The thing hangs on me like an ugly brown sack. I’m glad this place clearly is looking out for any additional costs.
I had to force them to order my dress. I called in December to order the dress so it would be there in April when I was visiting my family. I called in February to check on the status to see if it was en route from wherever they have these things made. They tell me they haven’t ordered it yet. Pause. They charged me in December when I placed my initial order and they did not actually order the product they took my money for. They gave me some song and dance about needing to talk to my sister and the other bridesmaids. I cut her off and demanded to know what my sister or the other bridesmaids had to do with Something Blue taking my money and not ordering my product. Silence. I asked if she was going to place the order, and she grudgingly did her job.
Since the dress was not going to be there for me to get it fitted, as my planning ahead had hoped, I now need to get the dress to me out here in DC. I mention this as she is placing my order and she tells me I can just have it shipped. Notice the pronoun use. I pause and then say, “You will be paying to ship it to me since you didn’t place the order when I initially called but charged me for it anyway, right?” Pause. She then unhappily, while trying to sound cheerful, say, “Yes, we can do that.”
Once my dress is ordered, I find out that two other bridesmaids placed their order through Something Blue as well. She asks me she should go ahead and just order those now too. The other bridesmaids placed their orders in January and had been billed as well. It was now February.
While I finally have my dress, two months later than I had originally planned and expected, no purchase should be this complicated and stressful. While I like small businesses and want them to do well in Puyallup, this is one that Puyallup would be better without just based on the lack of professionalism and business ethics displayed toward me by this establishment. I forget to mention that two of the bridesmaids were offered a 20% discount because when they went in my sister’s information – that they demanded I give them – was now in their system. I was not offered a 20% discount on my initial purchase (which was fairly amicable) or even after their glaring inability to do such a...
Read moreBRIDES BEWARE – CUSTOM IS NOT CUSTOM - I bought, what I thought was, a beautiful dress from this shop back in February. When the dress came to me, four months later, it was horribly ill-fitting. I took the dress to a seamstress who informed me it would likely never fit me. I thought perhaps she wasn't able to alter the style of dress I bought. The second seamstress I took my dress to attempted to alter the dress, but eventually let me know that the dress would have to be changed completely, in order to fit me and even then, it wouldn't be the dress I bought. Three weeks before my wedding I had to go dress shopping AGAIN. I called the shop to see if they would take the dress back due it being sold under, what I consider, false pretenses. I was informed the dress was custom and therefor non-returnable. I mentioned to the owner that she ordered me a size 10. As a pear-shaped woman, a size 10 would fit my bottom but the top would have had to be a size 6 to fit my bust. A size 10 is hardly a "custom" size. I had hoped that once I sent her pictures of how large the dress was on me and she spoke to both of the seamstresses who worked with the dress (I gave her contact information for both) she would do the right thing. At one point she did mention she found a seamstress who would help, 5 hours away from me. Unfortunately, a half-hearted and unfeasible solution to avoid taking the dress back. It is also worth mentioning, I asked to speak to the owner several times and was told she would call but she only emailed me throughout this process. I wish this shop would have been more forthcoming about the dress sizing and difficulty of alteration instead of trying, simply to make a sale. Unfortunately, this shop concerns themselves with their next dollar rather than their clients. It is my opinion that this shop also fails to meet their industry standard of quality and integrity. I was left with an expensive dress that I was unable to wear only weeks before my wedding. I truly hope no bride has to go through the stress I went through, looking for another dress so close to my big day and praying that it fit off the shelf. Due to my experience, I would advise no bride tarnish their special day with the agony this shop caused me. Please, do yourself a favor and find a business that values you and appreciates the experience of a bride during one of the most important times...
Read moreDress pick up: I was disappointed with this experience as I felt that the appointment was more about getting me in & out with final purchase of dress, rather than about my experience with the dress. Honestly, it was a bit sad.
I felt rushed by Lauren and that she wasn’t interested in the appointment.
Tip: wait to purchase accessories until you get the dress in, as your tastes my change. Also, all accessories are final sale.
Bottom line, I still recommend the store (and Tia!), I just wish this appointment had been more.
Original post:
If you’re in the market for a wedding dress, my only recommendation is Something Blue Bridal. This was the third store I visited— I thought I knew what I wanted and booked at two larger stores with promises of a large plus size selection of gowns. Both stores were aggressively pushing the sales of dresses I didn’t love and added concerns of rush fees, covid shut downs, and limited stock of select gowns.
I arrived at SBB somewhat defeated until I met Tia. She genuinely asked about me, my wedding and dress likes/dislikes. She let me know that all of their dresses were average size (12-28) so that everyone had the opportunity to try on whatever they wanted without concern of fitting into a runway size. Within 15 minutes of arriving, she had pulled the dress. I inquired about booking another appointment a few months out and the possibility of coming back to purchase then. She was so open to this and there was no concern on her end that she had missed out on a sale. She happily booked the appointment knowing that I was coming back for that dress.
I cannot recommend SBB enough! Their gown selection is superb, their store is gorgeous and the staff are so genuine. Cancel your other appointments, you...
