My review is based only on customer service only. I went in today for the first time to get a whole cake as a gift for someone. I reached out on IG messenger last night and was guaranteed they’d have the whole cake I want there. When I arrived, I was not greeted and there were many employees there. I had to wave someone down to help me. Whoever it was working the front seemed really annoyed and was really just off putting. Said she sold the whole cake I was there to get and rudely told me it was first come first serve but she could go ask the manager if there was an exception to be made given I drove an hour and 20 mins to get there. The manager immediately approved for me to buy the whole cake and she showed me one out of the cooler and said there was also a different designed one (clear sprinkles vs frosting). She showed me the one with frosting. I asked to see the other designed cake with the clear sprinkles and she said to look on the bar but because there was only 1 slice left it wasn’t obvious how it looked. I blindly chose the clear sprinkles because she refused to go get the other cake to show me. If I’m spending $140 on a cake then I want to see what it looks like. Then I asked if they can write a message and she said with an attitude she can go ask. She came back and the decorator approved and the snooty lady asked what I wanted written and not halfway through what I was saying she aggressively hands me a pen and a sticky note pad and told me to write it down. You could tell she was visibly annoyed and was way ready to be done helping me. I was in the shop total MAYBE 15 mins. And I don’t know if I want to go back based off this experience alone. Pretty irritating I drove so far to get subpar service. Customer service is everything to me. I spent $140 on a cake I’m hoping is good because no one would give me any info on it there, they told me to check the website. I honestly should’ve just walked out and went elsewhere. Besides that, The shop is very tight quarters. But their displays and cakes...
Read moreI'm not sure how long I've waited to try the Cat & Rabbit since I simply dismissed it each time I saw customers wrapped around the building which, unfortunately for me, was every day. "Who has time for that?", I thought.
For those hesitating like I did, allow me to give you some advice - stand in that line rain, wind, or blistering sunshine because this mouthwatering delicious cake is worth it.
I happened to be passing by when I noticed just one customer standing at the window so I took the opportunity. Leaving with a slice of Orange Poppyseed, I truly had no idea what I was in for when I took that first bite. Mind-blowing.
Moist yet slightly crumbly sponge cake that soaked the flavors into every bite. Perfect balance of buttercream between the layers and surrounding the slice. Truly, I'm not usually a fan of citrus in cakes as they can be so overpowering, but this was perfection.
Truth be told, this Orange Poppyseed was not my first choice. They were already sold out of Lemon Raspberry and Birthday cakes. However, that will not affect this rating today because after just my first bite it's clear to me this small bakery deserves those long lines wrapped around the corner of its building.
Before wrapping up this review, I also want to give a shout-out to the woman that assisted with my order yesterday. She was patient, knowledgeable, and took just a moment to connect with me as a new customer (the Tacoma tradition of Monkeyshines has a way of bringing people together, wouldn't you agree?)
Conclusion: Don't waste another minute - go get your slice before...
Read moreFirst of all, the owners reached out to me on social media with an actual humanized message asking me to stop by and explained how they don't sell just cake exclusively.
That's important for me because I'm a fiend for a good pastry or baked good, but I really don't like cake.
After visiting today with a friend, I guess I can now say I like cake. All of their goods are visibly displayed and I was greeted with enthusiasm and a genuine smile. Even if I didn’t like the cake, I’d still rate them 5 stars for the friendliness alone.
That said, I got the cherry pie cake and my friend got the banana streusel cake. The cherry pie cake was incredible. It was rich, moist, and dense with a very strong, but not at all medicinal flavor. The cream cheese frosting was silky and indulgent and I was genuinely surprised at how much I was enjoying a slice of cake.
The banana streusel cake was similarly fantastic and tasted like the best upgrade to banana bread you could imagine. Chocolate chips could never.
They also offer a full-service coffee bar and they’re no slouches to preparing a good, hot beverage to pair with your cake.
The owners and staff are friendly and inclusive and while the price may seem steep at first, you’re getting a large portion of carefully made dessert that you’d never find at a chain bakery or grocery store.
I would definitely recommend Cat and Rabbitt and I’ll be back soon to try the cinnamon rolls...
