Pullen Park is an absolute gem tucked into the heart of Raleigh, North Carolina — perfect for families, kids, and adults who are still kids at heart. With charming rides, beautiful scenery, and just enough old-school magic to make you nostalgic, it's a must-visit. But come prepared... and maybe stretch first.

The Train: A classic! This miniature train ride takes you around the park, and it’s a fan favorite for good reason. It's smooth, scenic, and gives your legs a break — especially after a paddle boat session (more on that in a second). Pro tip: wave at everyone like you’re in a parade. It's practically required.

The Carousel: This vintage beauty is over 100 years old and still spinning strong! The music, the ornate animals, the ride itself — it’s like stepping back in time, minus the corsets and horse-drawn buggies.

The Kiddie Boats: If you’ve got toddlers, these gentle motorized boats will be their whole personality for the rest of the day. Super cute to watch — though be warned, you may be begged for a second ride.

The Paddle Boats: Okay, listen. $7 gets you 30 minutes of romance and/or regret, depending on your leg strength. If you're not used to pedaling anything but life decisions, you will feel the burn. Still, the views of the lake are lovely, and it’s great for couples or anyone trying to impress their FitBit.

Pricing: Most rides (train, carousel, kiddie boats) are just $2 per person, per ride — a steal for how much joy you’ll get. The paddle boats are $7, and they come with the bonus of a lower body workout and humility.

Pro Tips:

Call ahead (or check the website) — the park’s number has an automated message that tells you what’s open and what’s closed. Helpful so you don’t promise your kids a train ride only to end up with tears and ice cream bribes.

Parking is a challenge — especially on weekends. Get there early, or be prepared to practice your patient-parent face while circling the lot 14 times.

Final Verdict: Pullen Park is charming, affordable, and surprisingly active (especially if you’re team paddle boat). Whether you’re a local or just visiting Raleigh, it’s 100% worth a few hours of your day. Just don’t skip leg day...

Pullen Park is a true gem that offers affordable fun for the whole family. Its old-traditional attractions, combined with its picturesque setting and budget-friendly prices, make it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a nostalgic escape from the everyday. So I advise you to pack a picnic, gather your loved ones, and embark on a memorable adventure at Pullen Park today. For the little ones, the carousel and kiddie boat ride offer whimsical adventures that spark joy and imagination. One of Pullen Park's most iconic features is its authentic train car, a relic from the Norfolk Southern Railway. With its bay window and Southern Railway paint scheme, this charming attraction never fails to delight visitors young and old. As the train chugged along its route, I couldn't help but feel a sense of nostalgia for a bygone era. For a leisurely escape, the seasonal paddle boats beckon visitors to glide along the tranquil waters of the park's lake. It's a serene experience that allows you to soak in the natural beauty that surrounds you while creating cherished memories...

Pullen Park is a beloved treasure in Raleigh, founded in 1887 by philanthropist Richard Stanhope Pullen, who drew inspiration from New York’s Central Park. As North Carolina’s first public park, his generous land donation created a free, welcoming space for everyone, a legacy that still thrives today.

Over 150 years later, Pullen Park remains a vibrant heart of the community, where families create lasting memories. The miniature train ride, chugging through scenic paths, sparks joy in kids and adults alike, while the beautifully restored carousel spins out nostalgia with its hand-carved animals. Towering oak trees provide cool shade for picnics, playtime, or quiet moments, making it a perfect escape from summer heat. Playgrounds buzz with laughter, and winding trails invite leisurely strolls.

As a Raleigh local, I feel immense pride visiting Pullen Park. It’s more than a park—it’s a living piece of our city’s history, blending nostalgia and joy. Whether you’re a family seeking fun or a visitor craving Raleigh’s charm, Pullen Park delivers warmth and...
