This was really disappointing. The light show itself was absolutely gorgeous and clearly a lot of work was put into making it, but I can't get past how many people were there, and two, how many people were unmasked and crowded together! I work in the healthcare field, I know people who have passed away from this virus, and as someone who has elderly at-risk family, the way that Turtle Bay handled coronavirus policies was downright offensive and scary. I couldn't even enjoy the night because of it. There had to be at least 100-200 people there (a mile long line as we were leaving, too). My partner and I both agreed that about 50% of those people blatantly had no mask. Huge groups, huddled close, eating and drinking, walking down the paths, talking loudly, with not a care in the world or regard for other people. Staff members were posted at various spots on the trail, and I never once heard them say anything to any of these people. Sure, there's signage saying you won't get in without a mask, but it's not true. I saw so many people unmasked. This would never fly in the Bay Area and the event should really be shut down unless Turtle Bay can get it together.
Also, just read an article where a spokesperson from this organization said that about 10% of people at the event will not mask up even when told, and there's "not much they can do" about that. Yes there is? Don't allow them into the event? You've got to be kidding me. It seems that making money is more important than public...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went to the Garden of Lights for the first time; it was nice. However, we probably won't do it again. The price of admission, coupled with their no-money-back policy, unless you pay extra for that option, really bugs me. I can see why they utilize the NMB policy, but for the price of the entry fee, if you're not going to allow cancelation in the middle of a cold, drenching rain, at least improve the walking paths. We drove from a little over an hour away, went in while it was raining, and still had to walk through one-to-two inch deep water puddles. The place was packed with people like us, not wanting to lose their entry fee. It was eight of us in our group. Maybe it was my fault for not checking what the weather would be like in Redding that night, but the number of kids having to walk through deep, muddy puddles is a shame on you. I'm not even going to get into detail about the $5 charge for using a credit card if you book ahead of...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThe light show was actually beautiful. Not too long, but it took us about 45 minutes to go through at a leisurely pace. And we appreciated the staff following covid protocols and all the signs telling people to wear a mask the entire time and socially distance.
But there was no enforcement. About 60% wore masks the entire time, but the other 40% just didn't care. Sometimes it was easy to keep space, but then you get caught in a group, with people trying to take pictures, the path gets blocked, and then you're just amid a maskless hoard. It never felt as safe as you'd like it too in such a big space because there were so many people flaunting safety precautions.
Ultimately, the organizers should probably be selling about 30% fewer tickets for the safety of everyone if they're not going to enforce the...
