We had a really great time at the Sundial Bridge. Walking on the river walk, the Turtle Bay Museum and checking out the bridge which is very cool. The Sacramento River has great trails with wildlife all around. The trail near the bridge includes a beautiful garden with educational stops for everyone. The Turtle Bay Museum and it's grounds were fun for all of us, including my fifteen year old daughter. She interacted with birds in the Parrot House and butterflies, and zipped on the zip-line in the playground. I'm sure her favorite part was the butterflies though, as we spent well over an hour in the butterfly house. In the museum there was a hand on educational room that has really fun activities about prehistoric flying reptiles, Pterosaurs. A whole room displaying replicas of the items discovered in King Tutankhamun. Pretty fascinating. There is a cafe that is currently being remodeled but Mosaic Restaurant was open. If you are unfamiliar with reading it's very hot in the summer months and stays pretty warm until October. I recommend sunblock and if your heat sensitive the indoor part of the museum and Mosaic restaurants during the summer. Otherwise visit early or in the evening I know they open at 9:00 a.m. the bridge and trails are always open but not all of...
Read moreSundial bridge is one of my family's favorite places to visit here in Redding. Obviously it's see biggest reading landmark around but it's also one of the most breathtaking and fun things to do for free here. There are always tons of people there riding bikes walking and enjoying the view. The sunsets there are absolutely stunning and a great place to take anyone visiting for a quick trip. There is a few extra things to do around the bridge and always a few people fishing and the river. Great place to take photos and video. I highly suggest visiting during sunset. The bridge also lights up at night and is quite spectacular to watch. If you have not been to the sundial bridge I highly suggest that you visit that landmark for an incredible experience. I have yet to hear anyone say something negative about that place. I've actually seen someone proposed right behind us while we were visiting there. I believe the bridge holds a lot of meaning to many of the residents and the area. Go check it out and see what I'm...
Read moreThe bridge itself was a beautiful sight, and we had fun walking across it and checking out the area. Parking was pretty easy, but a bit of a walk away. Normally, it wouldn't be too far, but as we were on vacation, we had belongings on an exterior bumper cargo carrier. We didn't feel comfortable or safe with leaving our vehicle unattended due to the heavy (and I mean HEAVY) homeless population that appeared while fixing lunch tailgate style. But soon enough, they were everywhere. We were approached several times and panhandled for food, money, and "anything I can vape." Several were so drugged out of their minds that they looked zombie-ish. We didn't feel it was a safe environment for the kids. All the restrooms in that particular area were closed "due to vandalism" (according to the sign posted). It's too bad that this is allowed to happen at what would normally be a great...
