My group has played over 50 escape rooms and this was the worst experience we’ve had. I want to explain that we have spent hours after a room just chatting with the owners. We’ve been invited multiple times to beta test new rooms. We’ve had game masters dying of laughter because we always do and say the funniest things. We’ve even helped build new sets.
We had a first timer play with us. He jokingly said, “it’s time to start picking locks, guys!” We all laughed, but our game master yelled over the walkie talkie that we better not do such things or we will be responsible for damages. Awkward.
We moved along and again, she felt the need to yell about how hard one of us was tugging on a lock and threatened us with the bill of the lock if we break it. It was completely dramatic considering the person who tugged the lock had a neck injury and couldn’t lift more than 5lbs. I’ve personally been a game master. She needs to understand there are politer ways to convey your point.
During our first gameplay, we continued to get the same kryptic riddle that wasn’t progressing us. After the 2nd use, you’d think we’d get a new clue. Nope. Needless to say, we didn’t beat this room.
During our second game play, we thankfully had a new game master. She lifted our spirits, but we had the reverse problem with her. She kept shouting out clues without us asking. It’s a strange experience when you’re focusing on a puzzle and the walkie talkie is chatting away in the next room.
This time, we beat their room, but it was frustrating half way through when she stopped us to explain how to reset a lock because she forgot to explain it at the beginning. It ate up our time. At the end, we were staring at the final puzzle, believing we had the wrong combination because nothing happened. After half a minute the box finally popped open. I think the game masters need a lot more training.
Everything tells you not to touch, don’t peel, don’t lift, don’t move and there are a lot of red herrings. There’s zero immersion here. I couldn’t tell you why I was locked in the cabin and if you asked me where I was stuck, I would have never guessed a cabin. I’ve played some bad rooms, but the game masters make up for it. Unfortunately, this was just bad all around.
UPDATE: The owner contacted us and told us he watched the tapes of our game play. He apologized for the poor interaction we had with his GMs and offered us a refund or two game plays. This is what excellent ownership looks like. You see a problem and resolve it. We happily took the new game play. Thank you for trying to give us a better experience. We look...
Read moreHave done several games through Unity and have been happy until today. We did the Cabin room and we were disappointed by the lack of theming and props. It was a very plain depressing room. It didn't feel like a cabin at allor even a jail cell. Just 2 plain room with some bar doors. Our game master was slow to respond on the walkie and needed us to repeat a lot. It was almost like she wasn't paying attention to our progress and when she could see we were struggling she didn't do much to help even when we asked. This was my 10th escape room but a first for the 2 friends we brought. This room was an embarrassment to have first time people see. You are at an extreme disadvantage being handcuffed to the wall. You are separated and put into 2 different cells and the clues to one cell assist the other cell and vice versa making communication among your teammates crucial. This is hard to do when 2 of you are chained to the back wall in the corner and cannot see. I could not see for over have the game what everyone else could. Might as well have gone in as 2 people because only 2 of us got the experience. I paid $35 to sit on the floor doing nothing but try and guess what to do. The game master didn't pair us up right or even ask how we wanted to be paired which also put us at a disadvantage. I had to apologize to my friend for how awful this game was. The puzzles didn't flow well and when only 2 people can see you are stuck far too long on one puzzle. We didn't even get to experience the second room in this game. I wouldn't recommend this room and I really hope that the kinks can be worked out so that people don't feel jipped. I have never lost a room and this was a...
Read moreTried the wizard escape room and I enjoyed the puzzles we were able to complete in the hour timeframe. Something I didn't like was that they suggest you split up your party to work on two separate tasks simultaneously in order to have enough time to complete the room, but this doesn't really work if you're out on a date and wanting to interact together to solve each of the puzzles.
They could really use the help of a local theater arts group to spruce up the intro videos with some actual actors and costumes to fit the theme because there was no production value there. I honestly had higher expectations for the wizard room decor and theming which really lacked any elaborate set pieces or memorable props. The ambience could benefit from generic fantasy music, dry ice, dynamic lighting, custom built facades, a fake fireplace, led windows, and things of that nature to give the proper vibe. I might be nit-picking here but I have seen other places that really take the theming seriously.
The staff were very nice and helpful and did a great job of being welcoming and explaining what to expect from our visit. You have a walkie talkie to communicate with them if you need a hint, and there is a release on the door so you're not actually trapped in the room (in case anyone is worried about claustrophobia). We didn't finish in time, but I was having fun with the puzzles up until the point it ended. 3/5 stars. Might return, but only at a significant...
