I decided early on in the week that we would treat the kids for ice cream. Initially we were supposed to go to Cold Stone, but I felt like something different - something less franchisey (I’m aware that’s not a word). On our way to the 10 freeway, I decided to search for ice cream shops and saw Happy Camper. We live and shop on ratings so I didn’t hesitate to head over when I saw their 4.9 rating on Google. The store smelled wonderful and we were greeted pleasantly so we decided to stay. I could write for days but I’ll get to the point of my five stars. The ice cream tasted handmade. The young lady behind the counter offered samples when she saw that we were undecided. My girls (10 and 8) couldn’t decide between strawberry and cake pop so the young lady recommended both. They got one scoop of strawberry and one of cake pop, and that combo was a hit for them. I love rocky road but I think they were out and she recommended German chocolate. Although I LOVE German chocolate cake, I wasn’t sure about ice cream, especially because my taste buds are very stubborn and they want what they want. But…I took her recommendation and I’m glad I did. Now I know I can get my German chocolate cake two ways!!! My husband got the oatmeal cookie - he loved it. All in waffle cones. My 8 year old dubbed this is our ice cream spot, and she’s somewhat of a boss, so there you have it. Not sure why the store is named Happy Camper yet but we all left happy campers. Should have taken a...
Read moreLucky that we got the chance to sample their heavenly gelato at very reasonable price of 2 Scoops for 5 dollars in Sunday morning market in Alabama st. I met the lovely owners and they are very courteous. The redlands orange sorbet had just enough tang.. I can still reminisce the zest in my mouth and the coconut flavor was so heavenly!! There’s bits of coconut and it has just the right amount of creaminess. You can really tell its homemade! Its a good thing they have pints for sale. I will definitely buy and try other flavors
New update Bought today the 6 pints for 40 dollars and it did not disappoint! Can really taste the goodness and fresh ingredients. Its a good value for 7-8 dollars a pint knowing its made with love and supporting small business. I bought- pretzelcano- perfect for coffee lovers. It has bold coffee taste. Strawberry gelato-not overly sweet. Almond coconut chip and salted caramel- aromatic coconut smell reminiscent of tropics. Can really tell - they're not skimping on ingredients. Blueberry sorbet - beautiful hue of purple tartness. Store was clean and happy to see people...
Read moreHard to find even if you know where to look, but the ice cream and value are great!
We stumbled on to this place after visiting Escape brewery and seeing their little tent sign near the front of the parking lot. It is hidden in the back, at the northwest corner of the same small industrial complex. (If you're at Escape, look to your left at 10 o'clock.) I went to all that trouble so you can find this place. The gelato was fabulous and the price was shockingly low. The very friendly staff told us the location has a rent which is 1/5th that of downtown Redlands, allowing them to charge substantially less for their excellent, house-made product. "One scoop" was actually two, which can be of two different flavors. That was $4, I think. Just spend the extra buck for the waffle cone already. I'm a value for the money kind of guy, and this...
