Great park, fun things to do, see and eat especially on Friday evenings! I've been going to this park for over 10 years and I'm never disappointed. The one thing it needed was an updated playground which was completed over a year ago and what a great playground it is! Between being right on the truckee River, the original playground accompanied by the train, beautiful gardens, a pond with fountains in the center, nice pathways for walking or bicycling, decent bathrooms (most of the time, large covered picnic areas, playing fields, swimming pools (during the summer) and indoor facilities you can rent for events, etc. This park has it all! What is even better is its walking distance from our home and I just love the walk along the river to get here! Sadly, we are moving back to CA and I'm going to miss this park and all the wonderful memories. I remember the first time I discovered this park while out walking my dog just after I'd moved to Reno and when I walked to the park with my daughter in her jogger just after she was born and we still do just not in the jogger anymore!! She experienced many things for the first time in this park like her first Easter egg hunt, her first train ride, building her first sand castle, her very first swimming lessons and her first time riding a bike! I remember when she was a baby and the first food truck fridays we attended at Idlewild when there were maybe 10 or so food trucks at most but we loved it and have been coming back every summer since. We come here all year round and have had a few snow ball fights, built a few snow people and made snow angels here in the winter. During covid when we couldn't go anywhere we walked here and along the river through the park almost daily! This is a really wonderful park for all to enjoy and I'm really really going to miss it! If you haven't been here then you're missing one of the best parks in Reno or anywhere for...
Read moreLove this place! Best park in Reno to take your family, or just to get out of the house and take the dog for a walk. Beautiful park, nice area and you feel about as safe as you can at any park. I've been taking my son for 7 years now. We enjoy it Everytime. Wether it's feeding the ducks at the duck park, skipping rocks from the river bank, practicing baseball on one of the three baseball fields, busting out reverse 360 heel flips at the skate park LoL, riding bikes or walking along the paved bike path running parallel to the Truckee River, swimming, BBQ, celebrating a birthday, riding the little train in summer that runs around a portion of the park, or just chilling at the playground and letting the kids get some of that energy out on the slides or monkey bars. Best park in northern...
Read moreMe and the ducks chillen by the river. Best lunch in a longtime (brought my own) but what a great place that you can drop a friend off at a 90 minute appt. Then go take in a moment of earthly beauty...yes there is people guaranteed to be there but PLENTY of places to duck down the rocks and chill with some duckies friends...FYI resist the urge to feed any of our fury or feathered friends until you leave..they will come close to you but they will back off and patiently wait near by. So go have a little moment of play and peace in your day right here at Idlewild park..thanks for being a great part of my day and my childhood...27 years since I been back and today brought me just as much joy as everytime before keep family...
