We went to Odyssey Fun World yesterday and it was a lot better than the reviews here would leave you to believe. We nearly went somewhere else because of those reviews and I'm really glad we didn't. This is kind of a hidden gem.
Odyssey Fun World has arcade games, air hockey, and a bunch of those games that spit out tickets you can exchange for little junk toys. It also has bumper cars, a little tea cup ride, a frog jump ride, and a massive 3-story climbing structure with a ball pit, a bridge, and a slide for kids. They also have laser tag and paint ball. It's a huge cavernous building with a lot for kids to do, side rooms for birthday parties, and a big eating area.
We spent the majority of our time in the climbing structure with 4 kids 2-1/2, 3, 6-1/2, and 8 years old. All had a great time. We also played a couple games of air hockey and did the rides.
We arrived at 10am on Saturday morning when the place opened and were the first ones there. At 11:30 there were only a few other families. By the time we left around 1:00 it was picking up. One of the staff members I talked to commented that it would be a lot busier in the evening.
My impressions:
The climbing structure is fantastic. The kids all had a great time. Let me stress this. They had a fantastic time. They climbed and climbed and climbed. They buried themselves in the balls. The came down the tube slides. It was great.
There is also some security around the play structure. Kids get special wrist bands and parents get matching coded stickers. They check you when you leave to make sure the combination of parents and kids are correct. So your little ones can't escape, and no one is going to run off with them. This is important because the structure is huge and at any given point in time, you may not be able to see your kid. I'd say they certainly got this area right.
The air hockey table we played on clearly had a weak motor and the puck didn't glide as well as you would expect, but the kids didn't notice. They thought it was great.
The kids all had fun on the little rides.
Let me do some debunking. While certainly not new and not gleaming, I would not call the place totally run down. A little worn - yes. There was some dust on the top of the 3rd story of the top of the climbing structure, but that would have been a real challenge to get to. Aside from that it seemed clean. The carpet was old, but again not dirty. Although it was raining, the roof was not leaking into buckets as another reviewer commented. The outside also did not look like an abandoned building as another reviewer suggested. Someone complained about the lockers. Yes, there are a limited number of lockers however they are on the other side of the building from the play area where you have to take off your shoes. Your family's shoes go in a numbered bin that matches your parent name tags. It shouldn't be possible for someone to steal your shoes.
The place appears to be staffed by high school or maybe young college kids. All were courteous and on top of things.
With respect to food, they have all the typical stuff you would expect from a kids menu. Pizza, Burgers, Chicken Strips, Hod Dogs, Corn Dogs, etc. Prices were not cheap but also weren't at all outlandish when compared to other entertainment venues. Those expecting cheaper food need to get real. I mean seriously, you're not going to get kid-menu restaurant prices at any entertainment venue.
In the food area they have a little stage with singing animal robots that come out for a song occasionally. They should probably do away with that. The robots were very old and the eyes didn't really open. I suspect that they were purchased from an old Chuck E Cheese. That was really the only part of the place that would call totally run down. ...but the kids didn't seem to really notice.
So in summary, while it's not Chuck E Cheese or Dave & Busters, it is a fun, safe, and clean place to take your young kids to play. They...
Read moreAwful. I came here on a Saturday night with my son and husband. Upon pulling into the parking lot, we heard yelling, and at the front entrance a lady holding a child was screaming with security. Security was yelling and threatening to call police.. at that point I would of left since I wouldn’t consider the hostile environment family friendly, but the dispute defused and my son was too excited to leave. Upon entering, the building was extremely hot/ musty. My son and I were hungry, so we headed for the food area. My son ordered a cheese pizza slice, and I ordered a grilled cheese. They gave us a buzzer and told us it would ring when the food was ready. My son got his slice of pizza immediately, as they had premade slices in a warmer. I waited 45 mins for a grilled cheese. Mind you there was no line/ kitchen was not busy. After finally receiving our food, we went to the sitting area to find a table. There was trash all over the floor, the floors were sticky, and tables were all dirty. Again, the place was nearly empty. We found a clean enough table and sat down. 5 mins into us eating, a worker comes by and asks us to move because “someone got sick under this table” .. we look below us and there’s vomit underneath the table that we didn’t see. I was horrified and threw my food away as I lost my appetite. Finally it was time to quickly spend our token card and get the heck out of there. The games in the area were dirty and covered in grime. My son won about 300 tickets and got a slinky and 1 jolly rancher candy. The staff was weird and stand-offish. Some down right rude. You can tell no one likes their job. *less than 24 hours later, my son and I are extremely sick, vomiting and have what we think is food poisoning. We both ate some of the pizza. My husband did not eat here and he is fine. Our symptoms came on at the exact same time. Be careful if you’re eating here! This used to be such a nice place, I used to come here as a child and had a great time. It’s sadly gone drastically down hill. I...
Read moreA complete disaster. I tend not to share my work on my personal page, but this travesty needs to be noted.
Our aftercare group, “Jr. Explorers,” was both looking forward to and scheduled to go to Odyssey Fun Farm (under Odyssey Fun World) for their pumpkin patch.
My staff contacted them multiple times for the last two weeks to ascertain and confirm the arrangements, and was assured of the price point, time, number of participants that compromised a group, and all other pertinent logistical info. in anticipation of our arrival.
We get there, and everything was for not.
The price point for a group not only wasn’t honored, they tried to double it! The terms and conditions communicated by OFW management was not met, and ultimately and shamefully, more than a dozen children were hurt and embarrassed, as we refused entry into an empty park.
That’s right, they turned us all away and there was less than 10 people in the pumpkin patch at that time, no waitlist, no reservation, no nothing. They declined us because their team members gave us misinformation.
From the frontline personnel to the manager (Amber), it was masterclass in disorganization.
When we were turned away, we went to try and physically speak to a manager at the Odyssey Fun World office nearby, but they had their frontline staff at the ticket window and concession, screen our request multiple times, which was completely unprofessional.
Once the manager came down, with backup I might add, she made no attempt to rectify it, address the lack of internal controls on who disperses what information, and refused to even entertain a compromise or work to arrange something at a later date.
Our children, who eagerly awaited this trip, and the parents who put their faith in us to see it through, were cheated and sent home with nothing.
I told the children as we headed home, to remember this day; “Sometimes, adults don’t keep their promises, but let this be lesson for you to always keep yours and don’t let...
