Apollo Meats has an incredible selection of beef. All beef is either USDA Choice or Prime, with the exception of their Wagyu (which has some other grading system I am unfamiliar with since my wife won’t let me get Wagyu even though I ask nicely and believe I deserve it). I stick with the filet, often getting a whole Prime tenderloin. The prices do fluctuate based on the market, but a whole tenderloin is usually 19.99 a pound and it goes a long way. Their ranch of choice is a family-run, midwestern cattle farm that supplies corn-fed and grass-fed beef that is of the highest quality. If you are a big fan of burgers, I recommend mixing the ground sirloin and the ground chuck at a 50/50 ratio; It's the perfect amount of flavor and juiciness.
Many of the cuts are not labeled, so, if you do not know what type of steak it is, just ask. The staff are super friendly, well informed, and are always happy to answer any questions.
They have elk, buffalo, and other type of meat for the more daring, and they also have a decent selection of chicken. They have a small selection of seafood; however, what they have is of the highest quality. They have a couple of types of shrimp, usually including Gulf jumbo pinks. Salmon, grouper, and snapper are almost always in stock. For some reason they don’t label it, but the grouper is black, which they should advertise as a strong selling point (but if you know your fish, it is obvious since the filets are so thick).
When there is a monthly induced iron reduction and a corresponding diminution of, shall we say, positivity, strong steps need to be taken.

Read moreI had a pretty bad experience today at Apollo Meats. I’ve been coming to this butcher shop for the last few years and my experience has always been great. However, today was different. Normally the first thing that I do it go down to the end freezer and look at their discounted meats and I will pick something out for dinner that night. Every time that I have done this the last dozen times I’ve been in, the meat has been frozen. Today the meat was not frozen but still cold so I checked the other meat in the freezer, and this seem like it could have been thawing out. But that freezer gets opened quite a bit so I wasn’t sure if the freezer might have been malfunctioning or if the meat that I grabbed had been just put into the freezer. So, when I got up the register, I told the cashier hey I’m not sure if you just put this in here or if the freezer might be broken. She got pretty upset with me and said if everything else is frozen in the freezer then the freezer is still working. I was confused why she was so upset and acting like I was accusing her of something. Wouldn’t you want to want to know if the freezer was broken and not cold enough? I thought it was the right thing to do by mentioning this just in case something was wrong. I’m giving them 2 stars because I have had good experiences in the past and maybe today was just an off day. However, this is the last time I will being shopping at this store or recommending...
Read moreBy far, the absolute best butcher shop with the very highest quality meats since I moved to Florida 9 years ago. My uncle had a butcher shop in Libertyville, IL that I went to for decades until he passed away. This is the first butcher shop that measured up to the quality of meats my uncle carried. We shop there once a week for all of our meats and their prices are quite reasonable. They blow all the grocery stores away with the quality of meats and the prices. Hands down the best in southern Hillsborough county. The place is always packed in the mornings and the extent of available meats is extensive. They will even go to great lengths for simple customer requests such as ground turkey or whatever you love. The meats also last because they're so fresh. I do not have a single bad thing to say about them. Nothing short of spectacular.
08/29/2025 The ribeye steaks we got this time were not evenly sliced making them a bear to grill right. They are still excellent pieces of meat but the kid who helped my wife needs to learn to cut straighter. They were tapered which made them difficult to grill. I don't like complaining because they are a fabulous butcher shop. I'll just have to go as the older gentleman knows exactly what I like. Still the best just a bit sub par this time. Will continue to frequent this store as their meats are better than anyone else. Just an FYI for the older, more experienced butchers....
