If you are considering Warhammer but always felt intimidated by it, just stop by hear and talk to Matt the manager. Trust me he will relive you of that fear and help you get started. If more game stores had someone like Matt people like myself would feel less intimidated by new hobbies. Honestly can't say enough great things from my experiences so far. I mean the guy remembered my name from one visit!
I'm 39 years old and always wanted to try something like Warhammer, but anytime I went to other game stores it just felt like there was no place for a new comer to learn. I'm sure we've all been there. You either have people who overload you with information or just don't want to help. My 2nd visit I picked up my first box ($60 only with many figures and paint included). Matt actually spent a great deal of time showing me how to put together my first model and showed me the proper way to prime it with paint.
Matt took the the time to answer a boatload of questions, and I didn't even buy anything. I came back and picked up the Introduction set, along with asking many more questions! He also pointed me to lots of supplies and additional paints that have made starting the hobby a lot more fun and creative.
One great aspect is no pressure, no upselling. He will suggest things that he uses and explain them, but it's a totally no pressure approach.
Looking forward to more conversations with Matt and learning how to play the game once I have my models Battle Ready!
Also everyone so far I've met at the store briefly chatting with has been really cool! I think that speaks to the friendly culture that...
Read moreI’ve been here 3 times. It takes 1 1/2 hours to get there so 3 hours of driving for every visit. The first time I called in and they said they had the free mini of the month. I show up an hour and a half later and they were out. Bummer no biggie. Next month, I call in 2 days before and they say they will have it on saturday (in two days I don’t remember the date) I drive in and find a paper note on their door saying they are closed until the following week due to being at a gaming conference… nothing was said to me on the phone call 2 days prior and Google didn’t reflect it. Wow… that’s really frustrating I thought… better luck next time. Fast forward to today, I called earlier in the week and they said they would have the mini and they open at 12. I show up at 12 and get in a huge line. I hear from others in front of me that they passed out the free mini before the store was even opened…… and now they are out…. Why? If I had known I needed to get there before the store had even opened because that’s when they were passing out the mini I would have planned accordingly but I’m done coming to this store. I’ll take my business to Ann Arbor. Thoroughly frustrated with my experience here and I don’t care about missing out on the minis. I’ve spent more money in gas driving to and from this place than the average cost of a product and I can’t help but think it’s because there was a lack of communication by the staff like hey we won’t be here this week don’t show up, or we pass out the mini before noon so get her extra...
Read moreI can talk for hours about everything I like about going to GW for Warhammer 40k and how there's always the most recent stock, fantastic organization, and just being a great hobby shop in general. But you can get that at any Games Workshop. You know what you can't get at every other Games Workshop? Matt.
Matt is the store owner and he is very passionate and proud of this hobby. My friends and I got into Warhammer 40k months ago but it's intimidating to go to a well established hobby shop that has its regulars and niche customers. Most places are "Buy or go home". Not here, no. Matt wants you to enjoy this hobby and absolutely loves what he does. Sometimes I don't buy anything cause I'm there to ask questions or browse. My point is that Matt makes this place more than just a shop. You can learn how to play, learn how to paint, heck, you can go there just to assemble your army and read lore. I can't appreciate Matt's hard work enough, if it wasn't for him, I probably wouldn't enjoy or even understand the hobby as much as I do. This is a warm and very welcoming place to enjoy the tabletop hobby. It's definitely worth the time to just drop in, I promise you...
