Rockaway Lanes Inc — Attraction in Rockaway

Nice people, but the lanes were dangerous. The approach area was completely unacceptable. If you were lucky, you could slide 2 inches. I don't bowl much and my arm is usually sore, but after my experience there my back and legs hurt as well because of the wrenching motion when I forgot about the conditions and started to attempt a slide as I have done in at least 10 other bowling alleys, with NONE even CLOSE to as bad as this place was. If they wax the lanes, it would be a different story, but lanes don't get that sticky (and it was not just our lanes, it was several lanes) without some serious neglect.

Additionally, the ball returns are ridiculously bad. I had to have 3 balls because I had maybe a 50/50 shot of getting my ball back without a 3 minute wait (literally, 3 minutes or more) and they obviously know it's a problem because when I asked, they said to wait a minute, then when I pointed out that there were FOUR balls stuck behind the lane, the guy said he'd send the mechanic, but it would likely spit the balls out by the time the mechanic got there. (They also blamed small balls, but there were two 14 lb balls stuck back there.) No mention of actually fixing the cause, just trying to tell me that they would EVENTUALLY get me my ball back, if I wanted to spend the time I paid for lanes WAITING for the balls instead of playing.

The place is just clearly not maintained. I suspect they're just trying to stay open another several months or a year before they shut down, or they'd be renovating. Actually, even that doesn't really fly, because how much money does waxing the approach area cost anyway. They must be lazy or just have given up on maintaining a...

Took my 21/2 year old granddaughter bowling for the first time there today. Haven’t been to this bowling alley in forever and it didn’t disappoint at all. Still very clean, staff still super nice and helpful. She had a great time, they even had bowling shoes to fit her tiny feet. The shoes were clean and not falling apart like other local bowling alleys. I live within 5 minutes of a bowling alley but drove 20/25 minutes to this one because it’s worth it. We can’t wait to take her back for some more bowling. They have a little place you can get some food also 5 stars for that place, delicious the woman in there super sweet. Great family place, date night place, friends get together whatever you’re looking to do. Great for family fun. Very clean and organized. The guy at the desk was so helpful. We had a total of 14, with three families. My only complaint is the food stand person. Without knowing who was with who she complained about our large group of people putting in to many orders (1 pizza, 2 sandwiches, wings, fries and mac bites) to who she thought was other guests. Little did she know that person was with us too. To be fair she was the only one taking orders and making the food but we never rushed her to cook. I probably will visit again but I think eating before I get there will be a better experience...
