Interesting little park area. It has several small kids play areas and some picnic tables along the beach area on the gulf side. It is a nice beach area accessible from parking via little bridges over the small dunes. But you will have to utilize one of several porta potties for bathroom facilities as they continue to work on the covered pavillion and restroom structures for the 2nd year since hurricane Harvey.
The park also includes a pier and Jetty wall you can walk out on and/or fish off of if you like on the Gulf side.
On the inland lagoon side of the Channel it has a Salt water swimming area and some shoreline areas that are accessible for fishing or launching kayaks. You will also find a boat launch and pier with fish cleaning station on the lagoon for park goer's use. Several areas are roped off and reserved for usage by the migratory and other birds / wildlife in the area (which are plentiful).
You can always find a variety of Pigeon and Gulls in the area to entertain you. But you can also find Sandpiper, Willetts, Curlew, Egret, Heron, Pelican, and maybe a Godwit. Of course in mid to late February the Skimmers come in to prepare...
ย ย ย Read moreThere are two sections to this park; one being a free public access beach and another with paid entry, which naturally is less crowded.
The stretch of beach has shelters scattered along the coastline, providing enough distance from another for some privacy as you and your family can enjoy a little sun, sand and the sea.
The wind can be pretty strong if you are hoping to put up your own umbrella or shade, making sure to anchor it down good.
The best part about this stretch of beach is the shallow waters with no strong currents. It is safe for children to go out pretty far (with adult supervision of course) without water levels between 2 to 4 feet deep.
Sand dunes at regular intervals help reduce the intensity of waves and one can walk through it without the need of any water shoes as there are hardly any rocks (short of an occasional piece of trash/debris).
All in all, the beach is kept very well for sun worshippers and fishing enthusiasts. There is a jetty near where we were and some people fishing off the platform. You may find some rock crabs under...

It was $5 cash to get in (for a car load) and even though there was a crowd we were able to find an open Cabana for shade. The east shore is open sand, not too much seawead, but very few shells. The water doesn't get deep for a while. There are sandbars everywhere going out from the shore so you can be waist deep one moment and then on knee deep ten feet further out. That makes it good for kids. They were still rebuilding the facilities from Harvey but there were port_o_johns set up.
The only real draw back was that there was a swarm of jellyfish in the area and our kid got stung but it wasn't too bad. A local lady told us the jellyfish aren't always in the area, they come and go. The sting cleared up in a day so whatever species it was wasn't too dangerous I...
