I always loved this Library but today Febuary 24, 2015.... My opinion of this place was lowered severely. The Circulation manager, named Sue.... one word..... unprofessional. There are probably other words I could have used to describe this woman.
My sister and I witnessed a respectable, young gentleman walk up to the Circulation desk on the 2nd floor, where he was showing the staff a poster of his MISSING BROTHER. This Circulation manager, Sue, walked up about that time and told him they were not going to put up his missing brothers poster, and also that they... apparently did not have enough space. yeah right. We witnessed this woman just ignore him and walk away. The woman also gave this young gentleman a few dirty looks. My sisters mouth dropped wide open seeing her just walk away from him. Not even giving him proper due respect!
The gentleman, at this time, had kept cool. I don't know how he kept cool being disrespected like that but he did. He walked back to his computer and then walked back to the Circulation desk and asked for the poster back, which the Circulation manager had taken from him. I presume she was just going to throw the poster away. He got it back, and then we saw the Circulation manager send a black woman down the stairs to follow this young gentleman. I assume to assure that he left the Library. Ridiculous.
We caught up with this guy outside, and he was very polite, very calm and did not seem angry. I would have been angry had I been him. Turns out this guy had been a manager at a few big block retailers in Roanoke. A very respectable guy... obviously he has seen his share of bullcrap, and probably just knew the woman was just a mean old lady. I don't think that Circulation manager probably has a genuine bone in her body, treating that guy like that. If I was that Circulation manager, Sue, I would be finding that guy and giving him a sincere apology! While I understand places can be funny about putting up posters and things about missing people, There is no excuse in my book to not put up a missing poster of this gentleman's missing brother! No excuse. This Library was founded and built in the name of the Franklin County Community! Of which that gentleman has paid into, and earned respect from!
I also posted about this on my FB page. My FB post already has 28 likes on it, so far! I do not like people being treated so disrespectfully. I assume since this Circulation manager had seen that he was probably someone respectable, and had connections, she figured she had better get out of the situation...
Read moreIf I could give a zero today, I would. They not only ruined my experience but the experience for my children. The kids zone lady and manager has awful customer service. I asked to speak to the manager over this location and she was very smart towards me and rude. They were accusing me of lying about turning the books in at the drop off location and said I did not turn them in, that they would be there.. I felt attacked and accused of lying. My kids and I dropped the books off on a weekend when they were closed. Awful customer service. Update: Just got off the phone with Rebecca and she was so amazing. She made me feel heard and was...
Read moreI stopped by the Rocky Mt library here once. I asked them to help me look for books on engineering. The lady asked "why do you need to see books on engineering"? I told her "Because I'm actually an engineer". Instead of saying something positive, she replied "I doubt that... you aren't an engineer, are you"? I said "absolutely" She then said "I doubt that.. but whatever floats your boat"
Not sure what she meant by the last sentence "I doubt that..but whatever floats your boat"... I truly am an engineer. That was offensive.
Otherwise this library is pretty good. Its right in the heart...
