This location is run down. Newer edit: ESPORTA 3/10/24 nothing’s really changed except the name and the wasted space at the front of the gym with fake grass. All of the problems from before are still there except there are a few new Olympic bars that are straight. The old bent ones are gone but there is still not enough for all of the benches and equipment. There are new squat racks that are almost exclusive to squats, which is nice but it seems as if the new generation of exercisers is either texting or using 2-3 stations at once, like it’s their personal gym and no one would be thinking of using any of the three machines they have their crap hanging from unused until their done doing something else. Courtesy is a rare thing anymore and almost non existent at ESPORTA. Most people are in their own world and that world needs several pieces of equipment all at once. New edit: 12/20: nothing has changed Post Covid. The place is still run down and empty. Just this week, Dec 10, 2020, I went into the free weight area and 4 of 6 benches were without bars! Decline, both incline and 1 of the 3 flat benches were unusable because there are not enough Olympic bars. Unbelievable, but expected in this location. They just don't care. And I see the "sales" guy walking a couple around like " just ignore the broken and missing equipment, it is a great gym to join. EDIT: The management at this location just doesn't care.
My original review was three years ago. Nothing has changed, ESPORTA is run at the minimum standards and that's OK with the people managing it.
The free-weights are always all over the gym, like in the studios, around the machines etc. There are always machines or equipment with "scheduled for maintenance" stickers on them but they are there for many days or more. There is a feeling of disrepair to the place that seems like the workers and management just don't care. they hang signs in the locker room to say watch out for your stuff because things are being stolen. Really, considering the care that goes into this place by the staff, it is no wonder that patrons are just as inconsiderate although that is probably more to blame on the location. I've had 3 situations in the locker room where "attitude" was a little over the edge. It is obvious that Round Lake Beach is not the best part of town. Perhaps it was at some time but it has been degraded to become almost a 3rd world country and ESPORTA reflects the neighborhood. Waukegan is much nicer, both in location, care for the facility, friendly staff and people who workout there.EDIT: Waukegan is just as bad, sorry. The lack of courtesy and the lack of caring by the staff, members, management is overwhelming at both of these locations. That being said, they are still better than Planet Fitness and their stupid woke...
Read moreSomeone in Management needs to put a life preserver on the Maintenance Engineer ( Janitor ) and show him where the pool is. He obviously has some kind of desperate fear of being anywhere near the pool since the tile floor around it hasn't been swept , mopped or hosed down for the last two weeks. I found a piece of rubber from a bathing cap or kid's toy in the pool and tossed it right next to the steps going into the pool so it could be easily seen . After 2 full weeks it was still there , so I made a complaint with the Lake County Health Dept. regarding the constant unsanitary conditions in the pool area. The fact that the floor along the pool hasn't been cleaned for two weeks was more than enough to bypass management on this one . There are bloodied band aids on the tile floor and other assorted garbage along the poolside. Walking along the pool side is like walking barefoot in a public toilet during a Major League game - Disgusting ! There is mildew along the sides of the pool that have been ignored for the last 6 months at least. Why does management allow such pathetic conditions in the pool ? And since Management has shown in the past that they are unable / unwilling to handle this simple problem of maintenance , all future complaints will go Directly to the Lake County Health Dept. Suggest you show your janitor where the pool is everyday and give him a mop and a bucket with simple instructions for starters . ////////////////// June 30th , 2018 Update - So ... here we are 8 months later and something is wrong with the pool water , besides consistently looking like watered down milk . I usually swim twice a week . For the last month , my nose starts clogging up after the first half hour of swimming . By the time I get home I can't even breathe because of some obvious sinus infection , and this happens only after swimming at this pool . I have never had this problem before and I have no allergies . So what is the problem here ? What are you putting in the pool water / Or what aren't you putting in the pool water ? You can expect another visit from the Lake County Health Dept. and you can explain to them why the water in the pool looks like an unflushed toilet . July 11 , 2018 - The pool was shut down last week to L.A. Fitness members for being an unsafely cloudy white color . Sept . 4th UPDATE ... Jacuzzi / Hot Tub is broken down and closed once again . As a fellow member said it best - " The Jacuzzi is down more times than it's up...
Read moreI think I will write the longest review that I ever have for this one :)
Where to start... please do not put much stock in all the negative reviews that you read... I went through quite a few of them and have some small reservations for my first workout here. I think many of these people might be expecting a private or small gym experience for a commercial gym price??? sure.
So at least for this location (Round Lake) , and this current time (Aug 18, 2024) , here was my experience...
Let me touch on a few of the most common review comments I saw.
Front desk staff: Front desk staff unfriendly - INCORRECT Anna was super friendly and greeted me when I entered with a smile and answered all of my questions. I did not get the name of her coworker but as I exited they both gave me a friendly farewell as well!
Gym smell: Gym stinks to high heaven - INCORRECT The gym had no negative smell or scent that I could pick up on, and even if it did, what do you expect? This is a commercial gym with a ton of people around you sweating and working hard! Not sure what these people expect, perhaps potpourri or incense at their last gym? XD anyhow, there was no off-putting smell worth mentioning, in the gym OR the men's locker room
Equipment: Tons of equipment broken or in very bad shape - INCORRECT I walked the entire gym and I saw maybe only 2 notices of scheduled repair out of I don't know how many hundreds of pieces of equipment. Come on people, its a commercial gym, stuff is bound to break and it cant be fixed overnight. Everything worth using was working when I arrived.
Equipment is old - OK, its not the newest, but wasn't the oldest I've seen either. but from what I saw everything was in reasonable working repair, and everything I used worked perfectly fine and will get me stronger as expected with repeat use. If you want brand new equipment, spend the $$$ at a much smaller and probably further gym people.
Sauna/pool facilities not working - INCORRECT I didn't use them this visit, but in passing I saw that everything was in working order.
All in all, this gym EXCEEDED my expectations, and i will continue going here (I currently have 3 different gym passes for various uses and I'm on the fence atm if this one will be my new #1)
Recommended if you live nearby, perhaps I'll see you there some day! :)
Thanks...
