Produce department: I have purchased celery and onions where mold was discovered inside the packaging upon reciept at home. Emailed the company regarding the issue including time-stamped day-of-purchase photos, no response. Onions have consistently been old (flies in the white onion bin, black spots on many items), cucumbers squishy, avocados hard as rocks - this is what happens when a grocer puts their profits ahead of your desire for quality and safety.
Bakery: 6:30am and there are zero donuts in the case. Guess no one wants breakfast in the morning. Got an early start to the day? Go f* yourself is the Meijer way!
Meat department: Many items in the coolers were days if not weeks past expiry. Purchased Norweigan cod for $14.99/pound and it looked like the fish was dogchewed. No one in the department is a proper butcher or knows anything regarding meat or having any standards for what is okay and not okay to sell to someone at that price. The deeply fishy smell also indicates a lack of freshness. Last week briskets were allegedly on sale, yet not a packer brisket was to be found in the store (I checked twice during the week).
World Foods: Apparently Asia is not considered part of "the world" because eastern ingredients and items are not in the world foods aisle. Cringe.
And speaking of, charging more than double what the store on the opposite corner does for virtually every food that could remotely considered ethnic says it all. Tomatillos at Tony's: $0.99/pound. At Meijer? $2.30/pound. You can go through every category - sauces, spices, canned goods, and Meijer slaps that border tax on everything.
Beverages: Never have the latest seasonal beverages, be it Baja Blast soda from Pepsi or Vallejo IPA from Half Acre. Beer cases were less than half stocked when I shopped last week Tuesday.
Bottom line: This is what piss poor management gets you. No attention to detail, no standards of performance, no pride in their work. 40 years of being a Meijer customer, but I will be shopping Tony's until and unless they figure out how to serve RLB better. We deserve better than moldy onions, shottily chewed up bits of fish, and overpriced, underwhelming...
Read moreI wish I could write a better review for this store. I live nearby and watched it being built and looked forward to its opening. I had shopped at Meijers in Michigan and had a positive experience there, but this store keeps disappointing me.
The worst part is the poor customer service. They never have enough live checkers. Plenty of self-service lines open. Their prices aren't that good and then they want you to do the work of checking yourself out on their glitchy self-service machines?
I just came from there and I was shopping for olive oil among other things. I found bottles of expired product that looked like they had been sitting there since the store opened. And this was not the first time I have found expired product, not to mention sloppy shelves that needed tending.
The check out clerk failed to notice the coupon on the bottle of olive oil I picked out. So I waited in the customer service line for 20 minutes and noticed at the last moment that the coupon had expired a few months ago.
The one bright star was Ed. B, who was gracious enough to give me credit for the coupon anyway. I had been somewhat vocal in my discontent so it was refreshing that he did the right thing.
My bank moved their branch to this store so that is the only reason I will come back here, at least until I hear there is a major improvement. Hire some more people Meijer and do a better job training them!
Update: Meijer has made some effort to improve but still has a long way to go.. I do shop there occasionally but I still only go for stuff I need that I know they have, and usually its to take advantage of their 24 hour open policy.
Their produce dept. is still a mess if you are looking for organic, they have it scattered all over. Their prices are all over the map. You can find some decent prices, but you have to shop carefully; most everything is too high.
This will never be a store I can love. I come for the bank and because it is open all hours. It is all about consumerism. They don't even give you a nickle or a dime for bringing your own bags. Go elsewhere if you can until they start caring about something...
Read moreI am a consistent shopper at Meyer round Lake Beach. I consistently get harassed by the associates regarding my purchases. Due to the prior incidents, multiple times, I have started checking out in front of the associate so I can stop being harassed. When I come to Myers I do large purchases of diapers, wipes, baby products, clothing, etc. The only reason I continued shopping here at Myers was due to the discounts. As of today, I will not be shopping here again. The experience that I have had with the associates have been horrid, embarrassing, and frankly racist. Today I purchased two large boxes of baby wipes, a box of pull-ups, and a box of Huggies, along with a few food items. I purchased this at number six right in front of the associate so I wouldn't be harassed. I walked over to the Starbucks area to purchase a couple drinks and the lady at the door stopped me to go over my purchases. Stating it is policy to check peoples items when they have big items however the lady in front of me who was NOT a minority had a "big" box of wipes and was not stopped. I asked to see the store manager and was livid at this point. The store manager refused to go through my things after using my time to check for the big purchases. Told me she understands how I feel… This lady is a privilege lady and doesn't get harassed for being a minority. She does not understand what it is like to be a minority and harassed all the time at her store. The store manager should be ashamed of herself and her employees for the way they have treated me over the last few years. No I have spent very good money at the store yet still continue to be harassed. I believe your policy should go straight across-the-board for everyone regardless if they are Mexican, Arab, black, and even white. Because when you are a minority and you are consistently looked over it becomes racist and stereotypical. Shame on Meijer's for treating a Mexican lady as thief. You no longer will be getting my money and best believe I will be spreading this experience with everyone. Meijer's shame on...
