Came here this weekend like many other weekends for a basketball tournament. This weekend was hosted by skyhook basketball. Before the 6pm all the players were told to gather around in a circle on court 1 where the host facilitated a lengthy prayer. The players had no idea why the were being told to “gather round” till the start of the prayer. The players weren’t given the option not to participate, they were tricked into participating. Even if they were given the option not to participate, the method of which this activity was facilitated would have made it extremely uncomfortable for the children to excuse themselves.
Players and parents alike had no idea what was happening until the man with the microphone began the prayer. Total disregard for consent.
Not only is tricking minors into participating in a religious activity wildly inappropriate, it’s extremely disrespectful to the families that chose other religious or non religious practices.
Nothing about this tournament advertises that it is religiously affiliated. If I wanted my child to attend church services, I would have taken him to a church not a basketball tournament. I do NOT want strangers preaching to my minor child. Ppl have no business preaching to ANY minor children that they don’t know for that matter. Tricking children into participating in a religious activity at a public event is...
Read moreThis complex has 6 basketball courts with electronic scoreboards that are very high quality. The seating is high quality, but they are arranged in a U-pattern on the second floor above the courts, which makes you feel a bit removed from the action.
A couple things to note:
There is only one bathroom on the seating level, which is insufficient when you have 500 spectators or more watching, plus idle players who are between games.
No outside food is allowed and no food other than a small chip/candy/drinks area.
Parking is very limited, get there early or you will walk around bit to get in.
Seating can be crowded. Know your schedule and get to the appropriate court before the previous game is over or you risk standing or not being able to see the game.
There are several really good hotels and options for food very close. For lunch or dinner, I would recommend The Pinthouse that serves fantastic pizza, salads, and serves craft beers...its ok for families.
Overall a great sports complex but they need to address the food and restroom issues for me to...
Read moreWe've been here from out of town two years in a row for basketball tournaments. The courts are nice. It just doesn't seem like any thought went into this facility at the planning level. Why put your spectators up so high, then run a thick metal bar right through their vision line? If you're anywhere other than the first row, the edge of the court right below you is out of view as well. Also there's only one entrance into the facility, so as people inevitably stop to talk or wait for their athlete, there's a bottleneck and you can't get anywhere. Why is there not another entrance at the back of the building? That would cut the bottleneck problem in half. The spectator part of the facility makes a U shape, meaning if you're on court 3 (left top of the U, and need to get to court 6 (right top of the U), you'll need to go all the way around, passing through the bottleneck at the entrance. Just a small walkway connecting the two would have helped. This facility could have been so...
