I have never posted reviews before but… I have never posted reviews before but the WARNING needs to go out. I have been generally happy with my care from UCD for the past 10 years, but I have rarely been as frustrated with ANY company as I am right now. Last year, as I always do, I set up routine physical exams for myself and my husband at the UCDavis Medical Clinic on Madison Ave. I have been doing this for almost 10 years with no issues. I requested, as always, ONLY the basic services that are covered by my insurance, United Health Care. I have never had a problem before but this time they charged us over $1500 in "lab fees" over and above the covered basic services that were requested. I would NEVER have approved $500 to see if our vitamin D is low...I would just buy a $6 bottle of Vitamin D and take one each morning. The charges are ridiculous, certainly high enough for them to cover insurance specialists or at least a warning sign and a strong mention from the receptionist that tells me I have to figure out what services are covered by my insurance even with a basic physical.
When I called to find out what the problem was, United Health Care indicated that due to some Obamacare changes, they didn't cover what they used to. United Health Care indicated that they had sent out extensive software and letters and requests to all of their providers (including UCD) to inform patients of additional charges no longer covered. UCD says they have no way of knowing, (?!?) that somehow I am supposed to know all about health insurance practices. THESE WERE ROUTINE PHYSICALS, certainly they should be able to provide me with ONLY the requested and authorized services. The lab slips are unreadable to the layman. I did not authorize anything more. Even my little 2 person dental office will provide needed direction about insurance coverage BEFORE they provide treatment.
I am appalled at the lack of accountability and customer service that has been displayed by UCD "Patient Relations". All they did was resend they billing to the insurance. Insurance customer service agents there told me earlier that with proper codes, they could pay some of the charges, but UCD refuses to even try...a weak appeals process involved resending what they had already sent to the...
Read moreMy family uses CIGNA insurance so we can go just about anywhere, but we chose UC Davis because of the high reviews. We are sorry we did. During my son's first surgery at UC Davis the discharge instructions were wrong and we were treated like it was our fault we called when the instructions clearly required us to do so. My son was discharged after spinal cord surgery two days early after being rushed out of the hospital and then developed a high fever. He was ten months old. The next time he was admitted (from another hospital ambulanced on over) because he was turning blue adn having difficult breathing, once again we were pressured to take him home. It was one in the morning and I was not doing that until I was sure he was gonna make it and I discovered that the IV bag they were giving him was for another baby. He had a seizure in the hospital just as they were rushing us out while he was being treated. The medication list on the wall was for another child. The hospital is dirty. Specialists request follow up visits but you can't schedule them because the staff won't schedule three months out and then they NEVER call. But That's not it folks because they have chronically scheduled procedures and then cancelled them AFTER I have taken time off work and the worse is they have an attitude like its your fault some other person is more critical then your son. No I'm sorry if you schedule a heart MRI with no warning and then cancel TWO times I'm gonna be annoyed. Same for his other procedures. And they cancell last minute as in 4:55 the night before a 8 am procedure. No warning just "an emergency came up". Well I have an emergency too, keep pulling these stunts and I will be unemployed. Next is the whole hurry up and wait. Appointment at 2:45, no worries you will not be seen until 3:30 oh but you gotta wait with your kid in a tiny room with no toys, food or entertainment for nearly an hour for a two minute check up where they ask things like "what medications is he on" Um same ones as last week einstein how bout...
Read moreI am a very busy man and I do not have time to leave reviews, but today UC Davis hospital in Sacramento made me sit in the waiting room for 8 hours. I got this time to share my experience. Hope this help some of you who decide to choose a hospital for their love ones: My mom visited the ER for a stabbing sharp pain on her chest above the heart. She has been in UC Davis for 28 hours now despite her heart rate, ECG, and scans look normal. UC Davis hospital does not allow family members to translate for their love ones. They use translation services. The translators are not certified. She was unable to translate for the patient. Lots of information was missing in between. This is unprofessional and unethical. My family doctor in UC Davis recommends over the counter medication rather then prescription medication. She reasons to reduce health care cost. In contrast, UC Davis hospital use translation service paying $120 a hour rather than allowing the family members to translate for free. The hospital does not have the decency to validate the parking ticket for a patient. You must pay $24 dollars for parking if you wanna stay with your love one. While they charge 10 thousands of dollars for an ER visit. The hospital is definitely dirty as all the reviews says. Definitely unorganized and a chaotic. I am still in the hospital. Already been here for pass 28 hours and not sure how long...
