While this is a great addition to the area it is not without flaws. No place is perfect after all, but I do think most people will have a positive experience when they visit this discovery center.
There are a lot of different areas for the kids to play. They also have a good amount of family bathrooms along with regular restrooms as well. I really appreciated the quiet rooms. None of the other discovery centers that I have personally visited have this option and it was really very helpful for our group.
I really wish that they had some type of lunch room or canteen type of room though. They do have a tiny eating area in the gift shop, but no microwave and all of the toys (available to purchase...) were very distracting to my 3 year old. Both the discovery center in Kansas City and in Omaha offer a room to eat in with a microwave and I really really missed it. My son is very particular with what he eats so not having a spot to warm up his food was disappointing. I do realize that this will not affect every parent, but it does seem like this Discovery center is trying very hard to be inclusive (which I whole heartedly applauded) and it is something that parents of kids with eating difficulties should be aware of.
My son loved the water table. He spent over an hour and a half playing in it. I really appreciate it all being shallow so I don't have to get my arm wet up to my elbow trying to get something off of the bottom and the baby seats are absolutely adorable! I do wish that they had been able to put a restroom closer to that area though. Carrying a wet little one through the whole level to put on dry clothes was an experience lol.
Lots to do for many different age groups. Our group included kids 3-8 all with sensory differences and all of them had a blast.
The climbing gym wasn't super well thought out. Maybe because there isn't a lot of room to put it. My 3 year old wouldn't crawl in the tunnels because of the holes and several adults in our group had serious concerns about the safety of them since it definitely seems like little hands/zippers/coats could get stuck in them. Especially if an older kid is not paying much attention. It is probably meant for kids over 5, but with it right there it's hard to keep a younger kid from wanting to play on it. My son was so upset that he couldn't get to the slide. But I do think if you have older kids they will enjoy it.
There didn't seem to be many employees watching the different areas. This could be a plus or minus depending on how you look at it. I've gotten used to having employees in every area in the discovery center in Kansas City and found that I missed it while we were here. But most of the adults present did a pretty good job of looking after their charges so it was still a positive experience.
All in all I definitely recommend this place. Just keep in mind the things you might have to work around...
Read moreI cannot say enough great things about this place! Literally all day fun and there's so much to to the experiences of play they created for the children are just really fun to watch them enjoy. We ended up buying the family pass and we really hope that as a community we will respect and appreciate this amazing place for the children that it has the future it deserves. The staff are kind and so attentive making sure things stay as clean and tidy as possible with the littles at play. You won't be disappointed and your kids will burn out the energy needed so the parents can enjoy...
Read moreGreat museum, especially for the price! My extended family lives in St. Joe and it’s so nice to have a place to take the kids when we come. We had a large group come as part of a family reunion and they were so accommodating.
I was impressed by the cleanliness, quality, and variety of the exhibits and stations. We visited a month ago now and my daughter complains almost daily that our kids museum in San Francisco just isn’t as good as the one in St. Joe, and she’s not wrong! Highly impressed by the quality and price. We’d absolutely be pass holders if we...
