My husband and I spent our 25th Anniversary here. The house is beautiful and we enjoyed just hanging out, either in the sitting room (filled with a collection of movies if one was so inclined), on the outside porch or in our room. Very peaceful and relaxing - just what we were looking for! Nice amenities. Upstairs is a small kitchenette with a coffee maker, small fridge, microwave, ice, an iron and even a washer & dryer! We were able to bring home leftovers from a restaurant and have them for lunch the next day! Also loved the individual temperature control in our room. A nice added touch was the heated towel rack! The Continental breakfast was perfect - fresh fruit, scones, juice and coffee. My husband paid extra for a full breakfast and loved both days - a fancy omelette the first day and fancy French toast with real Maple syrup & sausage the next. Isobel asked when we wanted breakfast and we were served accordingly - nice flexibility. Also loved hearing about the history of the house and St. Joseph's. Isobel is friendly and ready to meet your needs - a wonderful hostess. We got the Sweetheart deal which included fresh flowers, chocolates and an "I love you card". Nice touch! We went to some museums (fascinating) and a huge Antique Mall, as well as drove around looking at the beautiful mansions that dot the city. An interesting place with an interesting history. I'll definitely go back, but this time I won't wait another 25yrs.!

If you're debating on whether you should spring for a stay at this place or settle for an AirBNB or hotel, I'll make up your mind for you: You're staying here. Trust me. This place is a jaw-dropper inside and out. The price is quite reasonable, too, for such an extraordinary stay. So do not hesitate. Click "Book" and feel good about your choice. My wife and I stayed in the Verona room for our anniversary, and we loved everything about this place. The stained-glass windows. The abundance of cherry wood. The owner, Isabel, who has lavished this place with love to restore it—believe me, it shows. We found the Shakespeare Chateau Inn Bed & Breakfast to be so romantic, comfortable, and charming. If you want to surprise your spouse with a weekend getaway, you'd be wise to pick this place for the occasion! Did I mention it's quiet, too? You will never hear the stampede of a hundred hotel guests here. No, you will find your sanity restored here if you need a bit of healing calm. We only ate breakfast here, but it was a treat: an egg-and-ham-based treat the owner named "The Hamlet" for consistency with the Shakespearean theme. It was delish, and the name made us laugh!

My husband and I stayed two nights for our anniversary and were pleasantly surprised by this place. Isobel is a wonderful hostess and has immaculately restored the castle to its original design. (The older pictures on Google with white trim are outdated). The breakfasts, both hot and cold, were delicious. Scones/souffle/muffins all baked to perfection and good coffee. Handy 3rd floor "amenities" room with coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave, plates/utensils for leftovers. We really enjoyed the spacious Romeo & Juliet suite with in-room whirlpool tub, adjoining library, beautiful front windows with stained-glass to catch the light throughout the day. *Note: many restaurants are closed both Sundays and Mondays. We did enjoy Boudreaux's Cajun (quite busy by 6pm on a Monday) and Ground Round as well. Be sure to drive and see the city mansions on Museum Hill.

A Masterpiece of Hospitality: The Shakespeare Chateau Inn Bed & Breakfast and Gardens Stepping into the Shakespeare Chateau Inn is like stepping back in time to an era of unparalleled elegance and grandeur, yet with all the modern comforts you could possibly desire. Perched majestically on "Millionaires' Row" in historic St. Joseph, this isn't just a bed and breakfast; it's a living work of art, a testament to meticulous restoration, and a sanctuary of exceptional hospitality. From the moment you cross the threshold, the sheer beauty of the Chateau envelops you. The expansive foyer, with its stunning encaustic tile, ornate woodwork, and the magnificent bust of Shakespeare presiding over the fireplace, immediately sets a tone of refined splendor. We were personally greeted by the innkeeper, Isobel, whose passion for this historic home is evident in every thoughtful detail and every engaging story she shares. Her warmth and genuine care made us feel not just like guests, but like welcomed friends. We stayed in the "Romeo & Juliet" suite, and it was a romantic dream. Each of the six suites is a unique masterpiece, named after a Shakespearean play and adorned with period art, antiques, and luxurious linens that practically guarantee a restorative night's sleep. Our room featured a charming fireplace, exquisitely comfortable bed, and a private bath with a jetted tub that was a pure indulgence. The attention to detail, from the fresh flowers to the pristine cleanliness, was impeccable. The fact that each suite has its own climate control was a welcome touch, ensuring perfect comfort. The highlight of each morning was undoubtedly the gourmet breakfast. Served in the opulent Zuber Parlor or the richly paneled dining room, complete with original Zuber wallpaper and a Belle Epoque crystal chandelier, the meal was a culinary delight. Isobel is a truly gifted chef, and each morning brought a new, delectable creation, from her "Hamlet" baked egg casserole with Irish cheddar and broccoli to flaky scones with homemade lemon curd. Accompanied by fresh fruit, perfectly brewed coffee, fruit juices, and engaging conversation with fellow guests, breakfast was a leisurely and joyous experience, a wonderful way to begin our days of exploring St. Joseph. Beyond the exquisite interiors, the Shakespeare Chateau's gardens offer a peaceful respite. They are beautifully maintained, providing lovely spots for a quiet stroll or simply enjoying the serene surroundings. The location, high on a bluff overlooking the city and the Missouri River, offers breathtaking views and a sense of historical significance. What truly elevates the Shakespeare Chateau Inn above other accommodations is Isobel's dedication and her commitment to providing an extraordinary experience. Her knowledge of the home's history and the local area is extensive, and she is always ready with a thoughtful recommendation. The 47 original stained-glass windows throughout the mansion are a marvel, creating a captivating play of light and color that is simply mesmerizing. Our stay at the Shakespeare Chateau Inn was an absolute privilege. It's a place where history comes alive, luxury is understated and authentic, and hospitality is truly an art form. Whether you're seeking a romantic getaway, a unique historical immersion, or simply a tranquil escape, this bed and breakfast is an unparalleled choice. We left feeling refreshed, inspired, and already planning our return to this magnificent gem in St. Joseph. An unforgettable experience – five stars...

What an incredible place paired with equally incredible service.

The Chateau was gorgeous and full of history. I’ve never seen a place with such beautiful woodwork and stained glass windows. Isobel was so kind to answer all my questions and dive into the history of St. Joe and the house itself, clearly a huge passion of hers. My wife and I stayed in the Romeo and Juliet suite and it was so cozy we had a hard time leaving. I was impressed how clean and functional everything was given the age of the home, Isobel left no detail untouched.

Isobel was always available to address our needs. I showed up to breakfast an hour early one morning by accident and that didn’t matter, she adjusted for me. The next morning I showed up an hour late to breakfast, when I went downstairs expecting to only have coffee available, she still prepared and served us our breakfast which was so kind and not expected.

My only concern before arriving was the location not being very central. Turns out I was wrong. My wife and I could get to any of the restaurants downtown or off Fredrick in 3 to 5 min drive. Everywhere else in town could be driven to within 10min.

We’ll be back.

(PS - Glory is wearing a jacket in photos only because we were on our way out the door. The home was set a very comfortable temperature and our room had an independent thermostat...
