This is by far one of the bigger and better Asian supermarkets within the Stp East side area. Began shopping here for past 3-4 yrs since I moved within the vicinity before finally deciding to leave a lengthy review.
They sell some variety of your typical basic Mexican dry or canned goods, spices, and Mexican candy but go to Super Mercado at West side Stp or other Mexican shops for more authentic Mexican foods. Last cpl of yrs they have recently started expanding the Korean and Japanese food products. A whole two door fridge dedicated to kimchi, there's also viet noodles. Inflation making it harder to shop there especially since 90% of the goods are imported so I try not to buy things like dry instant noodles..etc. Variety of produce is pretty fresh at affordable prices. Will sell fruits in season. They have a wide variety of cuts of meat ranging from camel, lamb, poultry, beef, pork, Lao sausages, and seafood galore, frozen or fresh. They also have a huge variety of frozen snacks like korean hot dogs, dumplings..so, so much frozen dumplings, found some frozen parathas, wide selection of snacks, packaged buns and breads, spices, sauces, curries, flours and starches, panko, milktea powders, canned goods-sardines, ice cream, and a candy section, I can't name them all. They have put frozen pho meats in one section for easier shopping like the meatballs, shrimp, and meatloafs. They have dishware, cooking utensils pots, pans, and steamers, brooms, dustpans. Always fully stocked with everything I need and more and kept clean. The owner really understands the community customer market and this supermarket will not disappoint for your Asian grocery needs. Expect it to always be busy after 3pm on a week day and ALWAYS busy on the weekends.
The one time I asked for help finding something, the staff who was stocking shelves helped me right away. The butcher guys are all friendly and eager to assist. Shout out to all the cashiers, they are always so so so pleasant and careful but fast at scanning and bagging therefore makes checkout process less anxious and stressful and always reminds me about my rewards card, get one if u occasionally shop there. One year I saved up to $53. Used that on frozen crab legs for Xmas dinner. Love this new rewards program about the store.
They have a milk tea cafe where you can also pre-order cakes. I've never had their cakes b4, but they always look so pretty, elegant, and delicious. Their boba and milk teas are good. Staff are polite here.
They have a bakery by the noodle aisles. Their pastries look tasty, but bc I dont see a server, I ultimately skip it every time when I shop there.
I feel complacent about the Deli. The food is so delicious but pricier now with inflation. Roast duck and pork available, wide selection of drinks and pre-packaged papaya, qhopoon, larb, I love their sesame balls..my only complaints are the staff from the Deli area are not very welcoming or mindful about helping customers. I never know who to ask for help as it seems like nobody wants to help me even when just standing there, so even tho the food is delicious, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth bc of the poor and awkward customer service, so I choose to avoid the Deli when I can and I'm sure other customers notice this too but I guess they don't care, therefore rated 4 Stars, otherwise, other nice thing to know is they have plenty of nice parking with no potholes. You will never have to fight for a...
Read moreHa Tien is getting better and better, busy now most all the time. Walking into the store on the right is a very nice deli/specialty area with roast duck (and pork), prepared deli items (top notch Bahn Mi’s) and a seafood boil place (that isn’t yet well organized). Then there’s a newly renovated seafood and meat shop that is super clean and excellently stocked. There’s a frozen meat and seafood area in brand new covered freezers with many unusual items too. Next around counterclockwise is their produce, dried peppers, Asian greens, fruits, and root vegetables- a wide selection best in the Twin Cities. A very nice section of mushrooms, miso, and fresh noodles leads into dairy, eggs (including balut eggs) and kimchi in the diagonally opposite corner of the store. Continuing around gets into the warehouse section with Asian oriented cookware, boxes and boxes of dried noodles and ramen, staples, etc. The there’s a bakery counter. (I have some doubts about the bakery’s breakfast items - croissants, jelly rolls and such - which taste odd to me, maybe they use lard, but these at least should be richly buttery and they miss the mark there.) Then the tucked back corner of the store keeps the case flats of drinks, like coconut water, canned coffee and tea (some are excellent), bubble tea, soda, …. Then candies, impulse items and registers. That’s just the periphery, then continuing to the central interior back at the entrance is a big section of sale box sauces- soy, fish, hot (plenty of sriracha), hoisin, oyster, etc sauces. Behind those are tea leaves, cooking wines, vinegars…, wide variety of canned items (fruit, veg, meats, flavorings), then extensive dried Asian noodles (rice, wheat, mung) and a filtered water station. The center of the store has the standing freezers full of frozen vegies, fruits, dumplings, and desserts (yumm, mochi ice cream!). Around that last corner is the Japanese section with sauces, spices, noodles, seaweed (kombu, nori, …), seasonings, then a Korean section with similar regional selections. The front staff are pleasant, efficient, and helpful, all with excellent English; the stock staff is often Hispanic with variable English but totally willing to break from their rapid-fire stacking to find the shift boss who knows where EVERYTHING is.
Yes, it’s a BIG Asian store and I’ve been slowly learning its organization. Still lots to explore. The store is full to bursting, but kept clean and fresh smelling, like the premium United Noodles out west side, and much better than Midway’s Dragon Star and the like. I wish they would open the old Byerly’s seating area for meals. If they did that, Ha Tien would out-compete Channassen’s Asia Mall (except, well, the AM’s Keefer Court Bakery is hard to beat).
We’re really happy to have this high quality full service Asian grocery out here in...
Read moreThis is the third time they really screwed up my order. No utensils either. They used to be a lot better than this, but now are basically at the Sun Foods level.
First they screw up my duck order and overcharge me by 2 pounds. I put it on the scale because it felt off, and it was. By almost 2 pounds!
The next time I asked if their egg rolls contain pork, and the lady didn't understand me. So another lady came by and I told her I needed anything but pork, because a lot of the people I work with are Muslim. Pork is literally forbidden in their religion. She said chicken, so I continued buying the tray. Asking for a sample, the lady said "no sample".
I brought it to work and 6 people couldn't eat it because it was obviously pork.
Today I told the lady at the food counter that I can't do carbs, so please no bamboo shoots or veggies. She says ok. Proceeds to give me nothing but bamboo shoots, which weigh a lot more than the average intestine. So I get charged $11 and can't eat more than half the food. Moreover, when I said that I see she is doing nothing but shoots and veggies, she took some off the top and threw them back. Look at the pictures. By weight, not even a sixth was meat.
Realistically, I should have also weighed that... Because no way was that more than a pound, and I already experienced them scamming me on weight before.
Three strikes and you're out. I'm done shopping here and will be telling my friends and coworkers to stay away as well.
Little Saigon on University is a much better place, and they don't try to scam you with cheap items that weigh more. Sadly they were out of the intestines, which is why I came here. I should have stopped by the Hmong Market instead, but didn't have cash. Oh well,...
