The Library is clean and small and quite. I have been coming here lately to job hunt and utilize it's resources which are not much. I have been allowed to use the phone for over the phone interviews and borrow web cams at many other local libraries around town however this location does NOT offer those resources. Though I was able to leave a brief voicemail the librarian Terri helping me at the front desk made me feel quite small and meritless when I inquired what was the difference from the Hamline location vs let's say the Rondo Library which is bigger and much nicer but further from my home and she told me that the people who frequent the Rondo location are different than the people who frequent the Hamline location thus they probably allow you to use the phone there. Puzzled I asked her if she means a different demographic of people and she said yes I guess. Lets break down this microaggression " THERE'S POOR FOLKS DOWN AT RONDO SO THEY PROBABLY ALLOW YOU TO USE THE PHONE THERE BUT PLEASE BE CLEAR WE DONT OFFER THOSE SERVICES " Ok fine thanks I understand what you mean however considering this building is filled with rooms tucked off in corners (I'm sure in which have phones ) and and people come to the library for public resources I think there should be a phone / webcam / headset available for business usage ( Like Many Other Ramsey County Library's) for people like myself who have no phone and are trying to set up a few interviews and I dont think the front desk representative should explain that the reasoning behind not offering it is because " People are different in that area " Different how ? Please explain exactly what you mean by that ? Oh you cant right because that has a very racist / classism vibe. Considering Terri works at the library I know she understands that words have impact and would encourage her to be more tactful and less condescending in dealing...
Read moreWe love this library's children selection & the storytime is fantastic! Storytime is typically a perfect blend of reading books, physical activities through songs, and interactive stories they can participate with. My first two kids weren't into following along with suggested actions, but my youngest really gets into it. I don't think their shyness in that regard made storytime any less enjoyable, they still loved just holding the scarves or shaker eggs, and attentively listened to the stories. We've been going to this and other activities the library puts on for three years now. This library and staff are excellent! It's a...
Read moreIn this gorgeous old library, though petite in size, is a place that could be like a second home to escape into the wonders of reading. The attendants learn your name and face and aren't likely to forget it if you continue going. As a teenager, I loved the monthly teen book club which has been in session for maybe seven years. Because it is small, the librarians are meticulous with selecting the books to put on display. This collection hosts an excellent range of books. Children can learn to read here. A place that plays an enormous role in the Hamline...
