When we got a dog for our daughters bday, we did not think about the beaches in Florida. Over time, we found out that most beaches do not allow dogs on the beach. So, we started looking around the area for dog beaches. A quick Google search and Pass A Griller Dog Beach popped up. We have been there a few times now with our dog, and can say that one of the more challenging things is finding a parking spot. The beach is located in a neighborhood and parking is at a premium. Sometimes I drop off the family and dog and wait at the very end of the road where there is a curve. It has just enough space to pull over and then I wait until someone pulls out and jump to get that spot. Another issue that we have found that the beach area in the channel is a bit dangerous for the kids to swim. There is a current there and if you go out about 10 feet, it drops off to deeper water. So I tell the kids to stay close to the waters edge. Sometimes I bring a fishing pole and fish there and have caught fish at the beach because of the deep water and the channel. Over all it is a good place for your...
Read moreNot really sure why they bother to call this beautiful beach a dog beach...there are no fences...there are no water fountains...there are no parking spaces...the section where the dogs are allowed is very small, and there is a sign telling you the dogs are not allowed past a certain point...meaning you have to spend your whole time rounding them up and bringing them back to the designated area...and even though the entire rest of the Gulf is open to by humans and fishing, the fishermen had to invade the tiny dog beach, so you have to worry about them catching your swimming dog along with their fish...and if you get annoyed that you drove from south Tampa only to find your dogs can't safely swim with the fishermen and decide to walk past the "no dogs " sign with your dogs on leashes so they can at least walk the shoreline, busybodies will yell at you from the hotel and houses that they will call the sheriff, and that it's not their problem that fisherman have taken over...
Read moreVery nice dog beach that is 532 feet long (measured on google imagery). The beach drops off very quickly into deeper water. One lady threw the fetch toy a little too far and the current took it away from the beach. The few dogs and humans we encountered were friendly. Dogs must be leashed and that is probably wise because the roadway is a few seconds travel for an errant dog. No shade trees, benches, or water stations. My opinion is that this dog beach is primarily for the residents in the local community. There are many metered parking spaces only on the side of the road adjacent to the beach (pointed north). You must climb a ~15 inch curb to get from the road to the beach. Parking is expensive... about $3.50ish an hour. The meters do take credit cards but the one I used did not work so I used coins. Parking across the street or side streets requires some sort of...
