4/5 stars as an LA Fitness, 5/5 stars as a gym in this area.
To start and statin only facts, this gym has all of the various free weight and machine assisted equipment you could need to get as big as the great Arnold S. and rows of cardio focused machines (i.e treadmill, row machine, stair master.) There are multiple machines to hit the same muscle groups and spaced out over a large area so you don’t feel crowded. The bathrooms are clean and the equipment appears to be maintained regularly.
There is no pool but there is a sauna. The entire facility is on the second floor of the building (there is parking below) and the cardio equipment is on the third floor where you can look out over the second floor and all the exercise equipment. They do have an elevator platform that works as it should for anyone who can not use the stairs so no worries there. The staff is helpful, will answer any questions you have and will help direct you if needed.
Now To get a little subjective and give my opinion, this is a great location, solid gym, with plenty of amenities. It is not your typical LA, but other than a pool or basketball court it has everything else you would expect a serious fitness facility to have.
In closing, I give it a green light and say give this gym a try. Ask they should give you a few free workouts to see if you want to commit to a membership or not.
And a helpful tip. Since you didn’t ask. :). If your new to working out, or you don’t want to spend hours researching on the internet work out plans, or simply want to learn more about technique/training, get a personal trainer... Wether it’s just a couple of work outs or for continual improvements it will have a huge impact on your overall health and satisfaction in the the long run. We all bleed red but our bodies are beautifully shaped in many different ways so capitalizing on our best qualities, genetics, and personal preferences can help us all find satisfaction in a healthy lifestyle.
Be the best you, only you can be and Stay...
Read morePROS: You can’t beat the equipment at this place, it is top notch. The pool is always warm and lanes are open. Hours are good. Locker rooms are huge. Facility is kept clean. Cardio equipment is plentiful.
CONS: inattentive staff, frequently on their cell phones or just totally unavailable (maybe due to understaffing). Not green at all; still using paper towels in bathrooms instead of air dryers. Airflow in gym isn’t all that great because even though there are plenty of fans, they don’t have the CFM’s to actually push air. Disinfectant pumps on floor for machines provides inadequate amount of liquid. USE OF CELL PHONE CAMERAS IN LOCKER ROOMS IS RAMPANT AND LA FITNESS DOES NOTHING. Their policy for cell phones is weak at best and staff is not aware that they are banned (the statements I’ve gotten about this are insane), this is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
Verdict: the pros are enough to keep me as a member, but just barely. I get annoyed almost every visit by the cons, which didn’t exist at my previous gym. Some of the staff is nice but it would be great if some actually looked up from their cell phones or were present to greet members. It’s a friendly touch that every other gym seems to understand. The cell phone thing is a big problem. I’ve been told by management that they’re banned in the locker rooms, yet the sign in there only states that photos can not be taken of members without their permission. This is inadequate and allows members to take locker room selfies. I’ve actually been a participant in a photo which I did not welcome but i can’t exactly take someone’s phone or argue my point without going all the way to court. A simple “no cameras in locker room” would make members feel like the locker room is private again. This NEEDS to be fixed immediately and I will continue to bring it up to LA fitness until it is. I am not the only one with the concern, others have gotten so fed up that they’ve stopped trying to do...
Read moreThis is what I used to call a yuppy gym. It is geared to the non-jock male and female. I am 70 and severely disabled due to a MRSA infection that kept me septic, on and off, for two years and actually hospitalized for half of that. I worked out at the one in Saint Petersburg for about a year and was quite sure I was on good terms with them. I am profoundly deaf without hearing aids and I hear nothing in the gym but I am a good lip reader. I was working out at a bench doing dumb bell curls and alternating with a cable right next to it. A young man about 30 moved onto the bench after pushing my dumbells to the side. He was using 25's for seated dumbbell curles. When he finished that first set I asked him to let me on the benchh and he refused. I told him I was already using it and he and I could share. He erupted and was actually screaming at me, I couldn't hear it but I could see it. He thought I looked threatening and I probably did. He sat back down on the bench and picked up his weights and I sat down close behind him. He lost it, dropped the left hand weight and swung the right hand weight over his left to hit me. I blocked it but received a bloody wound on my left arm and I tooh him down to the floor very convicingly. Due to my lack of leg control I ended up on top of him but offered no more violence. He ran off to a corner and called the police while I finished my sets. I then waited for the appearance of the gendarmes. They came and got an earful from the poor picked on weight lifter. The police would not arrest me and I went home. Two days later when I went to the gym, the manager told me I wwas no longer a member. He would listen to any explanation. I asked others who were there and they said they had tried to explain the situation but dismissed without a hearing. Thats it yuppy gym and undemocratic management. I'm much...
