My wife and I go out of our way to try foods from different places and when we were visiting the area we just had to try Serbian!
The hostess was very helpful and friendly. She helped us make choices and honestly we got a bit too much but we wanted to try different things.
We tried the Burek stuffed pastry. The Chevapi traditional dish and the pljeskavica, an enormous burger type dish.
The burek is a long, wound pasty with a mild cheese filing. Textures are great and the dough is both soft and flaky.
Chevapi was the “required” item for us being a major dish of the country. Seasoned grilled beef links served on a pita. The seasoning was like nothing I’m used to. I’ll have to go look up Serbian spices and figure it out. Great texture and flavor. A joy to eat.
The Pljeskavica is like the largest burger you have ever seen. But instead of going high like American places tend to do, they go wide. It was as big as a dinner plate. The seasoning was similar to the Chevapi but not quite the same. The meat is ground differently than the over processed US methods and had a distinct texture that wasn’t just “ground into a paste”.
The hostess was great at helping us figure out what we might want and describing items for us and made it a very fun experience of trying new things.
Overall it was a terrific experience for those who like to try new things. We will absolutely be going back when we’re...
Read moreI read the reviews and it sounded like a place I wanted to eat. I always prefer a family owned place over a chain. It's in a small commercial strip, but I was surprised at how attractive and inviting the interior was. Beautifully decorated with a rustic, but elegant feel. I went at an off time, but there were a few other customers. I ordered the grilled meats platter with the grilled soft puffy bread. It was 2 varieties of sausage, boneless chicken, boneless pork, and a seasoned ground beef patty..... all grilled, of course. It came with the grilled puffy bread, some chopped fresh onion and some sour cream. It was all delicious. I didn't know exactly what kind of sausage but it didn't matter as I enjoyed it all. They had a wide variety on the menu including some delicious looking salads. But I had too much food in the platter to order anything else. I did have a piece of custard cake that was very good. And I got a piece of a different custard cake with chocolate to go. I enjoyed everything. I'll stop again when I'm visiting from Tampa again. A great place for reasonably priced home cooked food in a...
Read moreMy son, his girlfriend and I went to this Serbian restaurant today for the first time. The decor is charming, with Serbian decorations, big heavy wooden tables, chairs and some benches. There's about 6 tables inside and a bunch outside.
Our server was actually a friend visiting from Europe helping out. He was nice.
My son and I had the small cavapi ($10)i, which were small sausages on a wonderful bread, served with diced onions, tomato pieces and a white sauce that was either sour cream or Greek yogurt. Very good, and I'm glad I ordered the small order. Son's girlfriend had the fish stew ($13.50) with more of that great bread. I didn't taste it, but it smelled great. The dishes were served on charming wooden plates and bowls.
Son and girlfriend had desserts ($5), the Baklava and something else -- kind of a square custard thing. I tasted both and liked them. The Baklava was soaked in the sweet syrup and not crispy.
Overall, we enjoyed trying a kind of regional food we don't get very often and plan on going back to...
