The entire place is absolutely gorgeous. My friend and my sister came with me. Because I wanted to show them how wonderful the area is. There is so much to see and so much to do.. But as they were hungry, we decided to stop and to the restaurant and sit at the bar. I did not come to the area to go to the restaurant, but it was time for lunch. They were ordering drinks and I have celiac disease... Which by the way is not uncommon. When I was trying to make a decision on what as to I should have to drink ,I mentioned to the bartender that I had celiac.. He told me "you came to the wrong place!" and said it very loudly. And I was slightly embarrassed for even mentioning my condition, which is an auto immune disease. He could have suggested what alcoholic beverage was safe for me, but he didn't. So I had a glass of water. I also had a caesar salad which was delicious. My sister and our friends had meals that they really enjoyed. I would have given this entire experience a 5 star review. But I have to be honest and let you know that the bartender ruined the experience at the bar for me. I know an italian restaurant is all about. I know about italians.. It's all about bread, pizza, and Pasta. And I think that's why he was just kidding around, but it truly put me off. That's not the way to treat someone when they just mention a an autoimmune disease. I love the entire area so I definitely will come back. I just will not go to the bar. And I probably will never eat it that restaurant again. Sad thing is, I'm a patron. I brought my friends there because they had never been there before. They will definitely go back, but I'll just sit outside and get a drink at the beer garden. A can of truly is enough for me. The rest of the experience was lovely. The bartender could have told me what exactly was in the drink that my sister ordered. And that it was safe for me, too. He didn't he just made a big deal of the fact that I came to an Italian restaurant and I have Celiac. He probably was just joking around. But just wanted to mention how it made me feel. Because I think it matters. And it should matter to everybody who has a dietary restriction. Or a food allergy. Or an auto immune disease. Don't shame people! I am sure that my review won't matter. Because the place is booming, and that's good news for you guys. I don't want the bartender to feel badly. I just want people to understand how I made me feel. I think it matters. I just want to add that when I went out to get one can of truly it was $9. I didn't care. I understand that many people come there, they just don't want people hanging around. They need to make money, I get that. On the issue of celiac disease, I am a little bit baffled in general, as it's huge. 1 and 100 people have celiac. A huge population of Italians....it's common. Do better. Watch, no one will acknowledge this post. I bet...
Read moreThis will be the most honest review from a patron with numerous visits over the years. Tuscan has gone down hill with all the expansion. The couple we dined with knows the owner well, actually went to college with him and thoroughly agree with the service we received tonight. First, it took the waitress 24 min to come to the table after we sat, yes it was a busy night, but that should never happen in the service industry. Once the drink order was taken it took another 15 to receive our drinks. Apologies started from the waitress, not her fault, but this was the obvious mark that this establishment cannot handle full capacity. After the drinks finally arrived we proceeded to put in a simple app of hummus. 10 min went by and the waitress asked if we were ready to put in our dinner which we did. Another 10 min goes by, still no app, but our salads which we asked to have with dinner came out. We then asked about the app and we were told the kitchen was behind, when the app arrived the bread with the hummus was hard and extremely chewy as if it had been sitting under a heat lamp. We did not complain. Finally, our mains came out, well my wife ordered the ravioli, instead she received a chicken dish, our friend order the chicken parm with just parmigiano and received chicken with marinara and no parmigiano , the waitress apologized and said the kitchen had a mix up and would be back. At that time we ordered 3 of the same drinks, one of the drinks came and was not the same and instead of them fixing the drink they said they made it the same way but one of the mixers was chilled while the other two made were not. They completely tasted different. Bottom line from being in the service industry for over 20 years myself, apologies are only good when you follow up with making something right instead of telling the customer they are wrong. Customer service is what drives a business and it is obvious with the over development of the Tuscan family expansion, this brand is declining as they grow. Again, the waitress was great, not her fault as she did everything to make it as right...
Read moreI Planned a trip to meet my sister and my niece for a night at the new Artisan Hotel at Tuscan Village in Salem. We celebrated my husband and nieces birthday. We started at Pressed Cafe as we wanted to shop and it was too early to check in. I had never been to that restaurant. You order from a counter, take a number and seat yourself. There was no one else waiting for a table when we order our food but all the tables were full. Our food came out before I even had a chance to put milk in my coffee. I stood there with my number, plate of food and an iced coffee for an uncomfortable 10 minutes. Then to sit down and bite into my cold dry panini what a disappointment, chicken/eggplant. After choking 1/2 of it down we went shopping. Excellent stores, nice variety I could have shopped for hours. We ended up meeting at the bar inside the market and had a great happy hour, apple crisp mimosas are delicious. Check in time…. What a mess. One person at the desk at 4:00 on a Saturday of a holiday weekend. No carts to carry you belongings to the room. Wasted an hour doing that. We were surprised that $350 for the room did not include parking. Later what we had hoped would be a great meal for this special occasion ended up being a mediocre outrageously priced meal in the hotel. Our of 8 meals only 2 of us were happy, better odds betting on the Patriots. Went in search of a coffee in the morning, the hotel does not provide complimentary fresh coffee in the lobby. Went to the cafe in the lobby and paid $7 and change for 2 small coffees, okay fine, if it’s good. When I pointed out the color of the coffee the kids working there knew that it wasn’t right. I asked for a refund and they asked me for the card I put it on. Seriously my husband paid cash 30 seconds earlier and there weren’t any other customers because of the early hour. Tuscan is half way between mine and my sisters house and my niece lives in Derry so we’ve met there a few times. Too bad I don’t think any of us...
