Heres my edit since i keep getting calls and texts from this salon asking if im going to remove or edit my review! I was refunded for my haircut only. I will not be changing the star review because it is deserved. A stylist did a bad job and it's meant to reflect that, especially when no part of my review is exaggerated. Honestly receiving calls and texts while im at my job over this review nearly a month after originally writing it has left an even worse taste in my mouth about this salon.
Original review: I'm rarely the type to write a review, let alone a bad one but I have literally not stopped looking at my hair in horror since my appointment at Landis Marmalade. Let me walk through my day 1) after contacting the stylist on Monday (8/19) they let me know the appointment would be at 10am on the upcoming Friday (8/23). I showed up to the Landis Sugar House location at 10am Friday and was informed by receptionist that I was at the wrong location since the stylist only worked at the marmalade location on Fridays. At this point I wasn't aware of there even being 2 locations. The receptionist said she'd contact the stylist for me letting them know I'd be just a few minutes behind but when they tried to look me up in the booking system to see if I was properly in the system. The receptionist was unable to find me in the system and asked to see if I had any texts confirming my appointment with the stylist. I showed her a set of messages and the receptionist confirmed that yes, I should've been in the system since on my end I had done everything correctly. The receptionist called the stylist who already had another 10am client with them (so now I've been both not booked AND double booked) and the stylist asked if I'd be willing to come in at 2:30pm (4.5 hours after scheduled appointment) and I said yes, despite this now impacting my work day and forcing me to take time out of my day. I was upset by this but willing to look past it. I arrived for the second appointment at 220pm and checked in at the Marmalade location and asked to sit in the waiting area. At 2:30pm I was still waiting and continued to sit there for another 15 minutes past my scheduled appointment. The stylist came and got me and I explained my hair history and was aware that due to previous bleaching I had breakage and some split ends. I was told that I would need to cut off around 3 inches to get the damage off and I was completely okay with this! I showed them 2 images of a shag that was longer and another one that was a shorter cross between a shag and a feminine mullet. Both of them I've used to show my other stylist several times and she's nailed it every time so I don't know what went through the head of this stylist at Landis Marmalade. I had all sorts of layers cut into my hair that made no sense, chunks taken out randomly, and now my hair is a choppy mess that looks made me look liked medieval British boy. I am not a stylist myself so I didn't really know if I should say anything but I know now that my bad feelings during the process were most definitely valid especially once my hair got fully dry by the time I was home. My friend who's a stylist was shocked that someone didn't stop me from leaving the building with how bad it was. I didn't confront the stylist, which I should've but I dont think I wouldve been comfortable with them doing anything more to my hair. I paid and quickly left, got into my car, looked into the mirror and started crying. A year of growing my hair out completely down the drain is all I've thought since. I got home and tried to restyle it not liking how the curls turned out. Once I started straightening it I truly saw how bad it was. Huge straight across layers along the back and random cuts on the sides, topping it off with uneven fringe. I've got super thick hair and somehow it's been made to look super thin. I'm insanely disappointed and now I need to go get this mess fixed by another stylist elsewhere.
I purchased 2 things- a haircut and a hair treatment (bottle). This gave me a grand total...
Read moreI had a scheduled appointment at Landis Salon in Sugarhouse on Saturday, 2/24, for a scalp facial at noon. 30 minutes prior to my pre-booked appointment, someone from the salon called and requested if I could shift my appointment to 1 due to a scheduling issue. I explained that we had booked the appointment a month in advance to go together with my friend, and at that point, we were already on our way. They accommodate us at noon. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated. I was called back for my appointment at 12:15, while my friend waited until 12:35 for her appointment. I asked my stylist for details about the appointment since online booking did not provide sufficient information. She explained the process and took me to the chair. I was seated in the last chair on the far left, closer to other stylists than I anticipated, but I didn't consider it a significant issue. Looking forward to the appointment, I assumed as long as I received a good scalp facial and massage, I would be satisfied. However, during the process, it seemed like it was my stylist's first time doing a scalp massage. She struggled with using her fairly long nails, making the massage uncomfortable. Despite my requests to use fingertips instead of whole fingers, no adjustments were made. The use of a brush was painful, prompting me to ask for her to use her hands instead. Unfortunately, the scalp massage was uncomfortable, and my stylist did not listen to my requests. I consistently had water in my ear during hair washing, which I asked her to address. Towards the end, she sprayed a product meant to tingle the scalp, accidentally spraying my eye. Requesting a towel to clean my eye, she provided a dirty one. After returning to the chair, I agreed to have my hair styled. The styling process indicated that she was a new stylist, contrary to my expectation after paying a higher fee ($46) for a more experienced stylist, as suggested by the varying prices for scalp facials. We talked during the appointment, and she learned that I was searching for a scalp facial in Utah after seeing videos in other states. We had a brief conversation during my appointment where she inquired about the frequency of my haircare routine and whether I have a designated stylist. I shared with her that I have been consistently visiting the same stylist for the past six years, scheduling appointments every eight weeks. She walked me to the front desk to check out when the appointment concluded. I shared my dissatisfaction with the front desk staff, different from the person who checked us in, explaining the reasons. The staff apologized and informed me that my stylist was one of their newest and seemed unsurprised by my comments. They offered me an oil hair product for the inconvenience. While waiting for my friend, we checked out and left. Upon discussing our experiences, I realized the stark difference between my friend's positive experience and mine. I subsequently called the salon to share my feedback, hoping for a credit to book another appointment. I spoke with the same person who originally called and checked us in, and she expressed uncertainty about granting a credit. After placing me on hold, she returned and suggested that I had informed the stylist that I did not want to come to the salon due to concerns about them messing up my haircut. I clarified that this was not discussed, and as I shared my side of the story, she raised her voice and accused me of patronizing her. She further claimed that her stylist felt uncomfortable throughout the appointment and alleged that I explicitly requested not to receive a massage. Taken aback by her tone and statements, I clarified that the information she received was inaccurate as none of this transpired. She then stated that the only resolution she could offer was free products. I reiterated that my intention was not to get free items but rather to receive the service I had paid for but did not experience/receive. The conversation ended with her being extremely rude, unprofessional, and...
Read moreI’m not one to usually leave a review let alone a bad one. However, I feel that this should be shared. I had an appointment to get my hair trimmed and add some long layers for a little texture. My appointment was scheduled for 5pm. When I got there I was informed that my stylist was 10 min behind. I understand that people get behind or things can take longer so I waited. My appointment ended up starting at 5:20. The washing of my hair was going fine until my stylist started using her very long nails and basically scraped my head. She then told me to take deep breaths and that the water dripping down into my ears and eyes “was not as much as it seemed.” When I told her my head was a little sensitive she just changed the temp of the water instead of the scratching. My hair washing took another 15-20 min. Most of which was deep breathing exercises instead of washing/rinsing my hair. She also made comments about how “western” medicine nurses/doctors are not good people and are just “yacht hungry”after I told her I was in nursing school, then she told me when I become a nurse to only work with mind and spirit. After my hair was washed and I thought we were finally done of me laying there, she walked away without saying anything then came back and started rubbing peppermint oils on my temples. The problem wasn’t until she started rubbing peppermint oil on my ears and earrings where I had just gotten a new (sensitive) piercing. I didn’t get any warning about what was happening. After I finally got to sit up, my hair was dripping as I walked back to the chair and she said that they ran out of folded towels. At this point it was 5:45. When she started brushing my hair I was taken by surprise. I’ve never had anyone go from the very top of my hair and down with so much force. She said it’s good for my hair to disperse all the oils. But did it need to be so aggressive and so long? When she accidentally hit my head with the brush she said “sometimes I do that. But it’s actually meant to happen, because it shows me that’s where I need to brush more.” At this point I was almost scared to have the scissors near my hair but I trusted the high reviews of the salon and the nice atmosphere. As we continued I felt she spent more time telling me about ashwagandha and yoga than actually attending to my hair. At one point she asked if I was dating and when I said no she asked “do you feel like you can’t?” What does that even mean? All I said was, I’m recovering from a breakup she asked why I broke things off and what I said during the breakup. I found that a little personal and weird to ask so I just said I can’t remember. (Before we started the appointment she asked if I had plans and I said I did at 6:45 thinking an hour and fifteen minutes would be enough time to do a wash and trim to which she agreed and said “we can be done by then!”) by the time 6pm rolled around I started getting anxious as my hair was still soaking wet and she was still trimming my layers. When I asked how much longer we would be, so I could let my plans know I’d be late, she said she just needed a few minutes to dry my hair. I told her that I was okay if we skipped that because I knew I was short on time. She said it would be quick and started anyway and said that if I didn’t dry it all the way the haircut wouldn’t “set properly.” I didn’t even get half my hair dried before I had to call it quits and leave. I left the salon at 6:20 (an hour and 20 min after my appointment time) My hair is so uneven and I feel like I left with more breakage and damage (probably from the aggressive wash and brushing). My total for this haircut was 91$ (including a tip I felt forced to pay because she was standing there) and now I have to pay for it to be fixed. I see nothing wrong with talking with your costumers and being friendly but try not letting that slow you down or say...
