I don't think I could've experienced anything worst.
I called around to check prices of getting my hair colored an all around black and a small trim. When calling shear excellence, I was quoted $138 plus a potential small extra in case extra color bowls are used by the phone receptionist for the hair stylist shaelyn, this included trim and color. Based off the location and similar pricing at other salons I decided to go with shear excellence because the receptionist was extremely helpful.
The day of the appt I show up extremely excited for a new color and cut and discuss to shaelyn my ideas of all around warm brown- black color and a very small trim. She then tells me it will be $170 plus $50 for a trim. Unsure of why there was such a huge price discrepancy and completely caught off guard of how it went from $138 to $220 I explained my prior excitement and the reason I called so many places is truly I'm a student on a budget and was trying to avoid just this. She leaves after saying hold on and I wait 40 minutes with no idea what is happening. The owner,Lisa, comes out to assure me they will do it at a discounted rate but instead of color will use a gloss. I explain my uncomfortability with never having my hair dyed this way as I die it black every summer but with the owners reassurance I continue anyway.
Two and a half hours past the time I've arrived shaelyn blow dries my hair only to find my hair is only slightly darker and nowhere close to the warm black I was wanting. I bring this up and ask what our plan is to make my hair black and again she says hold on and leaves without any further communication.
Another 30 minutes pass and I am extremely uncomfortable, hungry and have been there for far too long. I turn to the side where the owner is working on someone's hair filled with extreme anxiety and ask what is happening several times. To which the very beginning of ignoring me she then turns to say they are making more bowls of actual color this time.
I can feel the staff are turning extremely unwelcoming to me. Another stylist who never introduced herself but later found out is Selby is probably where the experience turned to me ending up in a salon for five hours and crying. She was the most unwelcoming individual. She approaches me with no introduction, splits my hair down the middle and starts slapping black dye all over my hair very quickly and consequently it gets all over my face. She asked "so what made you choose black?", as she is literally tugging on my hair to lengthen the dye along my strands of hair and shaelyn returns to do the other side of my head with her bowl of black dye. I explain while also trying to wipe half of the black dye that is dripping on my face. I ask if they could clean up some of the black dye as I feel uncomfortable and selby says "because you keep touching it it will stain and that's what happened because that's the beauty of black" in a very sarcastic and condescending tone.
I sat in this salon for 5 hours of which I told the owner and another master stylist after completely crying while just wanting my hair black that I have NEVER felt so unwelcome, or even at some points like I was being sabotaged. I'm not sure how this was such a mission but I have never experienced something so awful. By the end of the day my hair turned out jet black not the warm black I was wanting and it was 5 hours and my whole day off was gone. I am also still somehow washing out black dye in the shower.

Read moreI've been highlighting my hair for 20+ years, but this was my first time at this particular salon. Ammon was awesome. He listened to my concerns about my hair, and my general thoughts about what I'd like, and he made very knowledgeable recommendations based on my hair type, texture, and color. I went with his recommendations for color technique and cut, and it turned out beautifully. In the past, I've always gone to a salon with a picture I've picked off the internet in hand, and the stylist just does their best to "match" the photo, whether it is the right style for my hair type or not. This was the first experience I've had where a stylist asked me good questions and then made personalized recommendations for me. He was a great conversationalist, too! Very enjoyable experience. I'll...
Read moreI look forward to my hair coloring, cutting and eyebrow waxing appointments with Meg, she always knows exactly what I need, she takes me from feeling tired and old back to rejuvenated!! I've been going to Meg for about 5 years. My very first time I went to see her, was with problem hair!! The place I went to had turned my hair a weird red/orange color. What I had wanted was my greys covered and some blond steaks, my natural color is a dirty blond. She was able to bring the balance back to my hair, color and cut it exactly how I wanted it!! I was so excited to finally find the perfect hair stylist. I highly recommend Meg for all your styling and waxing needs!! I just want to say Thank You so much for always listening to what I want and...
