Most people miss true historic nature of Acequia Park. As you enter the park, leave your car behind as you discover a walkway hidden to the everyday pedestrian. Walk toward the water and you will see the SE Military Dr. overpass in the distance. When you get to it you will notice a trail that veers right to a grove of trees. The walkway becomes rough and uneven, unfortunately not accessible to wheelchairs. Almost immediately you might hear the sound of a babbling brook. To the left as you follow the trail is the San Juan Acequia. Google Maps calls this the San Juan Ditch. A ditch it is not! It is an aqueduct which serves the needs of Mission San Juan today starting in 1731. Its pristine waters allow the visitor to see on a sunny day that the 'ditch' is actually lined with limestone. The trail leads right back to your car. The acequia eventually empties into the San Antonio River at the 10.3 mile marker at the southern end of the Mission...

I walked a little down every trail and they are all nice. I saw other walkers and people with dogs. There's a lot of picnic tables and even a huge covered picnic area that you can call to reserve. There was minimal trash and I saw people walking around, picking up the trash. There was plenty of shady areas while you walked any of the trails. It's really cool seeing the river so placid in some areas and more furious in others. This place would have five stars from me except the portapotties were absolutely disgusting and I saw a worker poke his head into one before walking...

We decided to grab are poles for a last hour of day light and head to Acequia Park, we found the perfect fishing spot where there’s a boarded fishing deck to enjoy the sunset and just hear nature in full swing, and having one of San Antonio’s finest Park Police Officer A, keeping our park safe and sound, I truly appreciate our City investment in our city parks and especially the San Anton Mission with there beautiful river walk scenic views, this is an outing your can enjoy with your...

Excellent park with walkways going into down town or out past 410. This goes trail goes for miles along the river walk river with a variety of changing scenery. A beautiful place for a stroll with family or pets and many tables for a picnic/barbecue. There are red birds, torture and ducks that fly around you or swim on by. There a also plenty of plaques with historical information regarding San Antonio, missions , rivers, Aqua reserves and crops grown previously.
