We went to La Perla and dealt with Marlon (marion?) in the drive-thru. I tried to order a Texas Plate. I wanted my enchiladas to be wrapped with flour tortillas instead of with corn and I was willing to pay an extra charge, which I clarified. He simply said, "We don't make it that way." I explained how I was normally charged an extra $3 surcharge for the adjusted way I wanted the order, and he said again, "We don't make it that way. What you want is a taco." I stated that a taco would not come with the enchilada sauce or the extra cheese on top and that what I wanted were enchiladas wrapped in flour. He REFUSED to permit me to pay the extra fee I'm normally charged and comply with my request. A woman came on and claimed to call the manager who claimed that he had never heard of it being made that way. I have had this exact order made at this restaurant numerous times. What I don't understand is: what does it matter if they have heard of an order being placed that way? I wasn't asking for something their restaurant didn't carry. The enchiladas would be made the way they normally made them but with a different kind of tortilla, which they happen to carry. But it's fine. I guess La Perla doesn't need every customer they can get, especially during these times. Just one road over, I discovered Esmeralda's Mexican Restaurant on La Presa. They're food is actually BETTER and the prices are fair so I have no need to ever return to La...

I've been going to la perla for a few years already, and I can say that today will be the last time. I walked into the restaurant and it was very hot, I did not want to stay but my daughter insisted. Service was quick, we got our food with in a few minutes of being there, my daughter started to complain that the sour cream we ordered tasted funky and I brushed it off and told her that maybe she just wasn't hungry. Then I started to smell a foul smell I tasted the cream and it tasted like it had been sitting out for a while. I told our server that the cream was bad and she took it back and said the manager said it was fine but I know for sure it was not because the smell was rancid. My daughter and I were so disgusted with the smell we could not eat our food, I got up to the cashier to pay and complained to her about the sour cream so she took off the charge for the sour cream but I feel as if we should not have had to pay at all seeing as though we did not eat much of the food. I would understand their reluctance to comp our food had we actually finished eating the bowls of pozole but we left our bowls basically untouched and all we got taken off our bill was the said sour cream. Therefore I will never eat...

This was my hubby and I 1st time visiting the restaurant. I asked if it was happy hour when we finally got the waitress to come to our table. Another couple came in after us and she gave them menus and got their drink orders, went to another table and then dropped off a menu. I told her I needed a few moments when she finally got to our table. She proceeded to mop the entire front on both sides of the restaurant, then sat down with another waitress right after she left my table with my order. I asked another redhead lady cleaning the tables for a waitress. After two minutes the waitress comes over and I place a drink order and she goes back over to where the other waitresses are at a table. After waiting over a minute she was still at the waitresse's table. I got up, had enough and walked to the lady attending the register. She said the manager Gwen doesn't come in until 4pm which was well over an hour.

I do not speak Spanish. But I give respect and expected to be treated just as fair as ALL the other patrons that spoke Spanish.

I wanted to go to a great Mexican restaurant not on the Riverwalk and I have to say I was very disappointed.

Fyi, my money is Green and that should be all...

Came to eat a quick bite on a Tues evening at 9.40 PM. We seated ourselves and the waitress was there quickly. Chips and salsa were good - tasty, with cilantro and flavor. We ordered. I had the mini tacos with beef fajita and guacamole. The beef fajita was a touch dry and had probably been cooked earlier in the evening. However the mini tortillas were grilled, the plate had grilled onion, and chopped onion and cilantro. The guacamole had some tomatoes but overall was very good. The charro beans were Excellent - i ate every one and drank all the juice. Superb! My compadre had the pastor tacos - he was very disappointed with the beef fajita i had - but he declared that the pastor was the best he had ever eaten. Four stars - and i would be glad to eat here again - probably pastor next time. The restaurant also had an older man singing softly and playing an acoustic guitar very tastefully.

SERVICE Service is great, both busboy and the waitress were extremely attentive throughout the restaurant. FOOD Food is great, all fresh. Tortillas are freshly made and fluffy it probably is the best I had in this area or most of SA I have been to. PRICES Prices are within the range of independently run Mexican restaurants around the area. Almost identical to any other place I have been. ATMOSPHERE There was live music while we were there, an older gentleman playing mariachi and singing. The restaurant and the tables were decently clean. I would recommend this place over most of the restaurants around the area.

Great Mexican restaurant to host small parties and get togethers! It’s pretty spacious and nice, the aesthetic is rather pleasing and the food is a solid 8/10! The service was really nice and we had a kind waitress who waited on us. The restaurant itself was rather clean and well maintained/organized so that was great! I recommend the enchilada plate here as it is one of my favorites Mexican plates! Their tacos are also good, especially when you toast the tortillas like I did down below! 9/10 great Mexican restaurant to try!
