I have known Rex Hausmann and his parents, Gene and Renee, since he and his brother, Erik, were in the 6th grade. I was their MS Principal and for a season got to know the boys as they were “frequent flyers” to my office. However, they were blessed with engaged and supportive parents and for Rex in particular, a required MS Art elective would introduce him to Gail Smith. She would help Rex discover and cultivate the creative gift within which would give him a focus and purpose along with his growing faith that would transform his life. By the time Rex graduated, his positive contribution to the school was palpable and his work was remarkable. Rex, Gail, and the school stayed in touch during his years at Savannah College of Art and Design. It was exciting to watch Rex’s talent, work ethic, faith in God, and service to others elevate him into a remarkable level of professional success. We were blessed to acquire Rex’s first commissioned artwork (a large mural) that he painted about the time he completed his undergraduate degree at SCAD. In a strange twist of events, we were able to acquire that work from its owner a few years later for a fraction of the cost. The mural is proudly displayed in a prominent location at the school. Rex and his work over the years have been noticed locally, nationally, and internationally as he has become renowned for both his work and for the impact of the Hausmann Millworks he shares with his parents and brother. I have visited this creative community which fosters the talents and dreams of its many artists by providing them space, supportive community, vision, and exposure. The positive energy Rex exudes into life is a motivator to those around him. We featured Rex and Erik in an Alumni Legacy Dinner at the school (the year of their 20th HS reunion) recognizing their successes and contribution in their spheres of influence. Just a few weeks ago Rex and his parents were honored guests at the launch of the school’s 2030 strategic vision. I’d love to tell you about his generosity on display that evening, but let’s just say Rex is an authentic reflection of his family and the mission of the school as it plays out every day in his unique expression of his “bloom where you are planted” philosophy of life. We are blessed by you and proud...
Read moreI just got back from New York City and hopefully GOD willing Spain next year. After that, well, the sky is the limit. Im not reviewing my ventures in traveling, I'm reviewing a space I rent from Hausmann Millwrks. You see, all I needed was a studio where I can create my artwork. You're in the main gallery. Make your way down the hallway and find pictures of all artist. Each studio personalized with your name on a Hausmann Millworks plaque. Your very own little safe heaven. Read moreIn the art world, certainly in Texas, there is much noise and excitement. One of the most beautiful and glamorous things about it is the people, and if you wish to find one of the most creative and glowing collections of people and their studios, you should look no further than Hausmann Millworks in San Antonio. Rex Hausmann will welcome you with open arms into the complex of artistic facilities and uplift you into what it means to be a part of the magic that is the people of the San Antonio art scene, and show you what it is all about there, with studios bustling with activity and an atmosphere full of excitement, creative energy, and inspiration behind him.
Working in a studio of my own at Hausmann Millworks for about two years, I can say with confidence that Hausmann millworks is a great campus for both exploring the colorful rich atmosphere it brings to the art world and San Antonio, as well as being a place to spread your wings and take off as an artist. The freedoms and inspiration provided to you by having your own space there will take you as far as you wish to go- which ended up getting me into art school in New York City. The greenery in the garden, the friendly faces and facilities and gallery and events always happening there as well as so much more, are what makes Hausmann Millworks the perfect place to grow where you are planted as I have; making the most of the abundance of magical opportunities and experiences you can find there.
