We were super excited to try this place as recommended by the Airbnb host where we were staying. Drove by it a few times and on our last day we went there for the brunch. First thought? Cute, but small. It was raining and full inside, but luckily there was one table left....on the side, by the entrance to the kitchen...and a tray full of dirty dishes.
When we put in our order they told us the biscuits were coming out fresh and it would be about 10-12 minutes. Asked us if we wanted to have both plates come out together. That was totally fine. We said, yes great. Sat down and received our pancetta quiche, it was good, pancetta was salty but not God awful. Not even 5 minutes after getting that, they brought out my plate only. In my head I’m thinking okay this is annoying. It turned out it was supposed to be the table behind us. I told her sorry, it think it’s hers (I wasn’t going to give it to her though because there’s no way I would take my food sat on another table). I wish I could have though, on top of it being way too early...the bacon was burnt to a crisp. No flavor. The eggs were super salty. Unfortunately I was starving and ate it all I wish I would have just given it back. When her plate came out it looked 100 times better.
My boyfriend ordered the biscuits and gravy and I was happy to see his eggs looked way less seasoned than mine, wrong. They were so salty he couldn’t eat them. He ate a few spoonfuls of his biscuits and gravy and after one bite of the eggs, we left. On top of that we waited almost 30 additional minutes for his plate after mine came out. It was soooo disappointing as we had such high hopes for this place. We will not...
Read moreREAD THIS IN ITS ENTIRELY. Responsibility is on owner not staff.
First time ever coming here and was looking forward to a delicious breakfast. Upon arriving the cashier who greeted me was very kind as she gave me recommendations and rang me up. As she went to prepare my food the owner came in (did not say hi or even make eye contact with me, I was the only person there) and walked to the back. As she was talking with the staff her child, curly long hair young girl, walked behind the pastry counter where I was standing in front of debating on what to take home, and the kid took a piece of a baked food and put it in her mouth. Touching it before pulling off a piece. The mom/owner returned and said nothing and walked out.
So I think everyone needs to know that this is a regular thing. Your food might have been touched by an unsanitary child who touches the baked goods behind counter, during winter months where germs are most spread.
Needless to say I didn’t take anything home. This was this morning around 9:30am 1/3/23.
Edit: The owner lives upstairs above the restaurant. It was not at all pleasant to hear the same unsanitary child, the owner does not set work/personal boundaries with, stomp around up and down the room above. Very loud and very distracting from having a conversation. Using being a parent is no excuse for lack of work/personal boundaries, allowing your small children to be behind the counter where food is...
Read moreThe place itself is very charming and located in an equally charming neighborhood. The pastries are very good. The sandwiches are alright. All of that said, the reason for the one star is because the service during our visit was atrocious. Listen, being from the East Coast we’re used to bad service, but the two employees at this place were not only rude but didn’t really seem to care about their job. We walked in, there was only one other customer waiting for a take out order. The cashier never acknowledged us, never said ‘hi’ or anything else. About 10 minutes later, while still staring down at the register, he mumbled asking if we were ready. We had no idea he was talking to us because he never looked at us. He then mumbled again but never looked up at us until I asked if he was talking to us. He finally looked up and took our order. We let it go and just enjoyed our lunch. On our way out, we ordered pastries to go and the other employee was at the register this time. Again, never said hi, never asked how was our lunch, nothing. My friend even tried to make small talk, but the employee said nothing, just stared at the register. We travel to SA often for work, and we will never visit this place again. You can’t charge $40 for two average sandwiches and pastries and not even try to at least pretend to care about your customers. Super disappointed because the place itself...
