I visited Mission Park Funeral Chapels Southside location on October 10th 2020. I was there to attend the funeral of Mrs. Anna Maria Ruiz. This woman was a recognized prophet of God. She had a church & traveled the world talking about the one and only Jesus Christ. It would be easy to assume that she has led many to the Lord. She was a beautiful & great woman.
As I was recording a memorial video, a very shocking and offencive thing took place about 6 feet from me. I was standing off in the distance to get a great View of the crowd that had gathered for Mrs. Ruiz. I found myself next to some employees of the funeral home. As I was recording the video, the sound of voices caught my attention. NO, RIGHT??? This couldn't be happening! I was shocked but, not as shocked as I would be when I started to pay attention to what they were talking about. Six feet away from me stood 4 employees OF THE FUNERAL HOME, having a discussion about the presidential election. "I mean, How completely dull can you be? How much lack of common sense is within you?? SURELY, they will quickly realize that this is not the time or place before it's too late!", I thought to myself.
Well, I thought wrong! The volume of their voices started to raise as their passions were ignited by each other's comments. I literally had to ask them to not have the conversation as I was recording! The 4 seemed taken back by my request. All 4 advanced in years; (3 males & 1 female) all 4 my elders. The woman answered back, "Sure". The correct response would have been "yes ma'am" but, that was far from her. Have you ever heard that in customer service you're supposed to say things with a smile? Well, by the tone of her voice there was no smile on her face.
Yesterday was election day and nobody has taken their right to vote away. To be quite clear, I truly don't care which side anybody is on. It's your right as an American and nobody is trying to steal that from you. What I'm saying, is that something has been stolen from me. I do not appreciate the disgrace that has been extended to me at a time when I am supposed to be allowed to mourn.
Mrs. Anna Maria Ruiz lived a good life & was a treasure to all who encountered her. She is my great aunt & I am very proud of the life she lived. I love her very much and she as well as our entire family deserve to be treated with dignity & RESPECT!
I uploaded three photos and the funeral home only kept the beautiful image of a balloon release. I took that image from the video that was RUINED by these completely...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRe: Commendation for Funeral Director John Trevino
My parents, purchased individual cremation packages with Mission in 1992. My dad passed in May 2013, and Mission superbly handled his cremation then.
My mother passed last Friday, June 7, 2024. On Monday, June 10, my wife and I met with Mr. Trevino to finalize arrangements and complete the required paperwork. I suspect for most, this process is emotional and unsettling. That was not our experience. Fortunately, a consummate professional ā John Trevino- greeted and guided us through the process. His skill set and demeanor are ideally suited to be a Funeral Director. Mr. Trevino was caring and compassionate, and his voice inflection was quiet, calm, and reassuring. He expertly and professionally fielded our many questions. It was easy to recognize his knowledge of the cremation process and his love for helping folks through this emotionally difficult time.
During our meeting with Mr. Trevino, we mentioned when my father passed, I had not been asked about his Veteran status, and, at the time, we had not contacted the VA to receive āhisā flag. My wife mentioned that our daughter remained disappointed to this day since she very much wanted the flag as a remembrance of her grandfather. Additionally, I told Mr. Trevino that my father had served in the U.S. Navy during the latter stages of World War II. Since he was a native Texan, it was extraordinary that he served on the Battleship Texas.
Mr Trevino immediately excused himself and stated he would return in a few minutes. Upon his return, he handed my wife a bagged U.S. flag with shell casings and a U.S. Navy and flag medallions. We will never forget and always cherish Mr. Trevinoās thoughtfulness and kindness. And what a wonderful emotional moment later that afternoon when we delivered the flag to our daughter. Iām sure she will always consider that moment very special to her ā after 11 years, she finally had her grandfatherās flag āthanks to Mr. John Trevino.
We express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Mission Park and John Trevino.
Mr. Trevino is a superb ambassador for Mission Park.
Thank you, and God Bless.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhen my mother, Herminia, passed away, she was to be laid to rest with my father at Mission Burial Park South. I had considered this the proverbial "one stop shop" at the time and was unsure what to expect from the staff or facilities. Still we wanted to avoid involving a separate funeral home if possible and were able to make both the funeral and burial arrangements simultaneously at Mission Park South. While some of the facilities certainly show the wear associated with a building of its age, the staff were outstanding in every way.
My family met with a funeral director by the name of John Trevino to set up the funeral. Mr. Trevino's professionalism and expertise were flawless as we made the appropriate arrangements. As the process went forward, John ensured that any issues or scheduling conflicts were explained succinctly and with the diligence due to them, while still working through those conflicts in a timely and professional manner. In addition, Mr. Trevino's direction and handling of the funeral on the day of the burial proved to be nothing short of extraordinary, as everything ran on schedule and there were no issues with the procession, church service or burial.
We also worked closely with funeral director, Marina Torrres. Ms. Torres demonstrated a high level of respectfulness and personablility thoughout the services and also showed herself to be highly skilled not just in the realm of funeral directing, but also in the realm of technology. Ms. Torres was able to advise us on various aspects of the funeral, as well as quickly rectify any technical issues that we encoutered as we worked on a slideshow and photo presentation that utilized various forms of media.
When all was said and done, my mother had a beautiful funeral that was performed quickly and smoothly thanks to the spectacular, astonishing and incredible efforts of John, Marina and all of the staff at Mission Park South. God forbid your family should need a funeral home in the future, but if you do, this is a...
