Runderful park!! Beautiful nature! Ran my long run on Sunday here, 25K. Parking was easy, got here a bit before noon. When I left, the parking was packed with a line of cars looking for a spot. The restrooms OMG were not that great but they were there. Paths to walk on, either concrete or a pebble path, the Geology trail. Looking at the map and lengths of the trails, I was not sure how I could do multiple loops for my 25k distance. Took off and a bit down the path noticed a trail to the right. Concrete path that went along, I guess a riverbed, although it's dry now. Came around a bend and stood eye to eye with a group of deer! Weather was gorgeous, path was clean kids of cyclists, runners, Trail Stewards on bikes. The trail joins up to other parking areas. There are water fountains at these junctions. Great Place to run and bike. The walking paths are well maintained and there was a huge playground with lots of big shaded tables outside. Lots of family patties where going on here. There was a dog park, lifts of happy doggies too. Great place close to town to get away from it all! Oh! Rock climbing! Guess about 7-ish kms on the trail and there where several people climbing the canyon walls....
Read morePhil Hardberger Park is a large, north side park divided in half by Wurzbach Parkway. The east end is accessible from Blanco Road, fairly close to Blanco Barbecue. The west end entrance is on Northwest Military, not far south from Alon shopping center. Also, it's possible to use the Howard Peek concrete city bike trail as it runs between the east end of Phil Hardberger Park to Walker Ranch Park nearby.
The east and west ends are not only divided by Wurzbach Parkway, but joined by the recently completed "Robert L.B. Tobin Land Bridge," which enables deer and many other species of wildlife to safely cross over the Parkway from one end of the park to the other.
Phil Hardberger Park offers miles of pretty, flat, wooded hiking trails and scenic views. The east end off Blanco features the unique Salado Outdoor Classroom and the popular Blanco Road Dog Park. The west end offers the Urban Ecology Center, suitable for large gatherings and meetings, and the "blue playground." And of course, there is plenty of parking, especially on the east end.
The park normally...
Read moreI love this park!!! I particularly am very fond of the unique things they have available for children and adult to do here. There are trails, an event space, picnic tables, a field to lay on or do whatever, a basketball court, and a park that's filled with the most peculiar playground set!!! I played on the playground with my niece and had a blast! Then we walked the trails and found a little gated garden which you can enter and get to enjoy the natural beauty of the flowers planted by the Master naturalist (forgot his name lol but it says it upon entering the gated garden) then we found a banquet space , and found that there was a wedding going on that day . The banquet area is super nice and cute too, with picnic tables to eat with your friends or family . Theres also a bridge you can walk on. Overall theres so many things you can do here !!! And theres restrooms at the banquet area and porta potties in the parking lot ! Something here for everyone to enjoy!!!! My family and I had the...
