TLDR; super crowded with good service but EXTREMELY expensive. I've always tried to support local stores when I can but there is a limit on how much more I'm willing to pay to support them otherwise I'm just being stupid.
First of all, the store front is extremely small with a locked gate so just wait at the gate and they will buzz you in, push hard on the gate when it buzzes. The store is almost always busy and I have a feeling it's probably the busiest gun store in the Bay Area since I've been to many. There are only 2 aisles in the store so just line up on either and the people working there (there are usually at least 3 people working there and sometimes 5) so they will get to you. They are good at acknowledging you after you line up.
I don't have all the data points but I can tell you that when I inquired about Mossberg maverick 88, I was quoted $400 (pretax or fee). Note that the MSRP is $250 and sportsmans warehouse (not sportsmen supply) had it on sale for $200. I was impatient so I got the last in stock one from Reed's at $300. This is just one data points but it gives you an idea of the pricing difference.
The other pricing difference is ammo. For example, a shorty 12 gauge is about $13-17 for a box of 10 but about $9 for #8 at Bass Pro Shops. The main stickler I have with the store is that if I use this store for FFL transfer of online ammo it's $75 for a box of 250 shells. So that's basically 35% up charge for the store.
So you may be asking why I'm still giving the 3 stars for charging so much?
Well, for one thing they do have decent service (although I'd argue not charging so much for commodity is part of good service). For example, when I originally called the store for FFL, I was quoted $75 for 1000 rounds but it turned out it's "up" to 1000 rounds so for my 1000 rounds, because it was separated into 4 boxes (even though it's one shipment) I was quoted $300 (4x$75) when I went to pick up. But the guy was nice enough to charge me $150 due to the misunderstanding. Note that I went online route initially because even when I tried to buy in bulk (whole case) from this store the pricing was more than the pricing of the buying individually from Big 5.
So if you are pricing insensitive then this is a great place to go but if you are even moderately pricing sensitive that you don't mind paying 10%-20% more than online then look else where.
Note that not all the stores do FFL for ammo so you may have to use this place but just be aware of the pricing so you don't...
Read moreI recently had the opportunity to work with Sal and his team at Peninsula Guns and Tactical, and it was an experience that deserves nothing less than a full 5-star rating. For anyone who values personalized, friendly service, I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment over any of the larger, more corporate options available.
From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was welcoming. Sal and his colleagues were extremely helpful, friendly, and took the time to ensure that all of my needs were met. What sets this shop apart is the high level of individual attention you receive, transforming what could be a straightforward transaction into an engaging and informative experience.
I've always been an advocate for supporting small businesses, especially when they offer a superior experience, as was the case here. While it might cost a few extra dollars compared to larger retailers, the quality of service and community presence easily justifies the expense. It's not just about buying a product; it's about becoming a part of a community that values each customer as an individual.
One of the standout aspects of Peninsula Guns and Tactical is their commitment to customer satisfaction. If you find that something isn't available in-store, all you need to do is call or stop by. As long as your request meets state guidelines, they will go out of their way to get it for you. This level of service is rare to find, even in smaller shops.
In summary, Peninsula Guns and Tactical offers a flawless shopping experience. It's a place that not only sells quality products but also fosters a sense of community, something that is so important in today's world. If you're in the market for firearms or tactical gear and are looking for a shop that makes you feel like more than just another customer,...
Read moreThe worst part about this whole interaction: after buying from them and as I was leaving I heard him call me a “douchebag” under his breadth! I walked out shocked and disturbed. I’m sure the other people who work there are aware or are just as awful as this guy. Moving forward I will be so happy to drive to a big-box outfitter over an hour away to spend all my shooting and hunting equipment money.
In fact i just bought the exact gun I wanted for less than MSRP and some shooting equipment from one in Brentwood. I bet I would not have gotten such a good deal at PGT. I dropped over 700 bucks. Your loss, Sal.
There are other reviews here that talk about someone who works at PGT, "Sal"? The guy I worked with had a clean shaved head and a goatee, too. I could tell he was trying to not lose his temper as he interacted with me on a quiet afternoon where the store was practically dead and over staffed. Granted he had just finished unpacking 2-3 cardboard boxes and was still cleaning up. Still, Sal, chill out, man. Sincerely, I am ok with being ignored for a couple of minutes while you finish that. Instead he got irritated probably because he does not listen and react well to what other people are saying. I came in to look at shotguns. Then I remembered that I needed a travel case for a handgun. I ended up buying a small safe box that is way too heavy to travel with. I wish Sal could have pointed that out to me ahead of time instead of just pushing it into my hands, literally. I bought the safe anyway with out giving it enough thought, because I was feeling generous and wanted to help a local business. PGT has a no refund policy and I don’t want to try and guilt/annoy them into taking back this thing. I’m glad there are other places in the bay where I can buy...
