California Tower — Attraction in San Diego

The California Tower is 198 feet (60 m) tall and is open for public tours as of January 1, 2015. The tower's design is Spanish while the details and color are Mexican in style. The tower is composed of three tiers that shift from a quadrangle to an octagon and then a circle. There is a Maas-Rowe carillon in the tower, first installed in 1946 and replaced in 1967. The carillon can be heard throughout the park. It plays the Westminster Chimes every quarter-hour, and a resident carilloneur plays three songs at noon every day. The tower has been described as "San Diego's Icon," the most photographed and best-known landmark in San Diego. As I journey through Balboa Park on my daily walks, it is an extreme joy and pleasure to hear the chimes of the carillon in the background. I love the chimes!

Balboa Park is an absolute gem in the heart of San Diego, and it's no wonder why it's one of the most popular tourist destinations in the area. I recently had the pleasure of visiting the park and I was blown away by its beauty and charm.

First and foremost, the park is absolutely stunning. The lush greenery, beautiful gardens, and stunning architecture make for a truly unforgettable experience. The park is home to numerous museums, including the San Diego Museum of Art, the Museum of Photographic Arts, and the San Diego Air and Space Museum, to name a few.

In addition to the museums, Balboa Park also offers a variety of activities for visitors to enjoy. There are hiking trails, a golf course, and numerous playgrounds and picnic areas. The park also features the famous San Diego Zoo, which is home to a wide variety of animals from around the world.

The park is also home to a variety of events and festivals throughout the year, including the annual Balboa Park December Nights celebration, which features live music, food, and holiday activities.

We wanted to take the tour and learn about the history and architecture of this historical building. Instead we got a floor-by-floor description of how evil San Diego founders were/are. Woke history of native Americans, Chinese, Blacks, LatinX on every floor - none of them having anything to do with this building or Balboa Park.
