Out of the several libraries I've been to in the San Diego area, this one is by far one of the larger ones. There is a massive child section with small tables and small chairs. There is a community room where they hold community events and library-sponsored activities. There is also an area with several large tables and in which talking is permissible; you will often find young children being tutored in this area. There are several private single-person booths located throughout the library. Like any library, the seats near the plugs are often occupied, so bring your laptop with a full charge! Similar to most establishments in San Diego, this place can become quite busy around peak times: 2-3ish (when the local schools let out). Because the library is centrally located in Carmel Valley and is near a middle school and an elementary school, parents will come to the library to pick their kids up. The parking situation is often a mess at this time. Also, at the time that these schools let out, you will notice an influx of grade and middle-schoolers flood the computers and many of the study desks. The staff is very accommodating...

Security guard was roaming around with his phone in hand and looking at the screen - not sure if he was watching videos to entertain himself while working or if he was actually videoing the library users. Security was also the only person wearing a mask - perhaps he was trying to hide his face. He looked like he wanted to see in my bag while essentially blocking my way from leaving, in which case he could either ask or make it a policy but to try to do so in a creepy not so subtle way is unsettling. It/he was odd. Parking is okay, could use more but street parking available for overflow. The sign to the library is very hard to see from the street...you may pass the driveway...
Read moreThe staff doesn't seem all that friendly at first but they are actually very helpful! They usually have some sort of community events, not just for kids but for senior citizens as well, which I love. You can put any books on hold and they'll email you once the books are ready at the branch of your choice.
The parking is terrible here by the way, very tight spot except a few in the back of the parking lot. This branch is adjacent to an elementary and middle school - I highly suggest you visit there outside of the drop...
