Read moreWe had an incredible experience yesterday (7/30/16). We ranged in age from 4-68! The 4 year old had problems understanding the directions (he just wanted to fly like Peter Pan!), and the instructor Adam was so patient and encouraging. The 12 year old was both excited and terrified. To me the super exciting part, and what I really want to talk about, was in the "flying" part. The little one just couldn't get his legs straight- looked like he was trying to swim- so was flipping all over the place. I thought that was the end for him. The high flyer coach, Nick, simply swept in, took him under his arm and flew to the top, several times, brought him right in front of the camera and even over to our side of the glass giving this boy (and us) the thrill of his life! He will NEVER, ever forget this. The audience outside watching started clapping and clapped till they were down at which time they stood clapping and yelling! They knew Nick was a hero! It was so unexpected and so incredible. We had ear plugs and helmets on and could still her them! This was over and above what we could have hoped for. I went from sad that he wouldn't be able to fly to crying tears of excitement and gratitude! Nick Flo, you were incredible! The 12 year old was very hesitant and actually frightened by the time the high fly was there. He so wanted to, but . . . So he told Nick he wanted to try, but not too high. I saw when he faltered and lost it and the fear in his eyes was incredible. Again, Nick swept in, took charge and flew with him just to the place he wanted to go! To be able to feel his fear and still go through with it, to have Nick honor his wishes to just go to a specific point, will stay with the 12 year old. What a wonderful way to build confidence! So thank you IFLY and thank you specifically to Adam and Nick! Me, I'm sore today. I'm the grandma! But I'm the happiest granny in SD right now! The other 2? They were naturals and loved it!!
By the way, if you have jumped out of an airplane tandem, don't believe them that this is easier!! HA Much harder, I...
Read moreVery cool experience! I came here for a professional workshop, believe it or not. There is a conference room behind the indoor skydiving tube. A professional association to which I belong organized a meeting, small workshop and presentation, and indoor skydiving. What a fantastic combination, right? Get educated and then skydive?
The conference room actually impressed. They had a legit conference round table, and the conference chairs were super comfortable. iFLY provides notebooks, pens, and water. Pretty good deal. There is a big screen inside which we used for PowerPoint presentations.
After our meeting, we were brought by an indoor skydiving instructor into a small room with a large television. We watched a video on how to safely and properly skydive indoors. The instructor came in to give us a few more instructions and then they suited us up. Let me share that I was very impressed with the courtesy and professionalism of the instructor. He used humor to keep us captivated and did a great job.
Next we moved to the "suit-up" station. The staff here gave us each a one-piece suit to put over our clothes. We were also given special shoes, a helmet, goggles and noise-canceling ear plugs. Afterwards, the instructor brings you into the wind tunnel / tube and shows you how to free fall and how to use your arms and legs at the same time to "fall" stably and controlled. For an additional cost, the engineer will turn up the wind speed in the skydiving tunnel tube, which makes you go higeher, and the instructor will grab on to you and take you all the way up the tube (15 - 30 feet).
The experience is thrilling, suspenseful, and exhilarating. It can be kind of scary, too, because the instructor will make you spin around the tube in circles extremely fast, and your body moves so freely and so quickly. It's definitely an adrenaline rush. I just wish it was longer because they only take you up for a minute.
I think this is definitely worth trying and I highly recommend it. If you don't have the courage, consider giving it as a...
