I recently attended a Brunch at Lips, and I must say it was an incredibly enjoyable experience. The theme for the day was Sunday church service, and the combination of crass humor and fantastic performances made for a truly memorable event. I was part of a party of six, and we arrived at 1:15pm for the 2:00pm show. Upon arrival, we noticed that the line outside the venue was already quite long, indicating the popularity of the event.
The security guard, Peter, stood out with his exceptional helpfulness and friendly demeanor. He was available to answer any questions and provide assistance as needed, setting a positive tone for the start of our visit.
We entered the building promptly at 1:55pm, where our reservation number was confirmed before being shown to our table. As we made our way to our seats, we were able to choose our drink of choice for the day. The entry cost of $37 covered the price of our meal as well as bottomless drinks, which included options such as champagne, mimosa, or bloody mary. The menu offered a great blend of breakfast and lunch choices, and I opted for the chicken club sandwich with French fries. It was absolutely delicious, and everyone in my party thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Additionally, we were pleasantly surprised to be served yummy blueberry muffins while we waited for our food.
We placed our food orders at 2:15pm, and they arrived promptly at 2:45pm. The timing was ideal, allowing us to savor our drinks, engage in conversation, and enjoy our food before the show started at 3pm. The venue itself was well-equipped to accommodate a large number of individuals, with ample seating and impressive decorations. The cleanliness of the venue added to the overall pleasant ambiance.
The cast of performers and entertainers truly stole the show. They were not only incredibly talented but also incredibly funny. Their ability to put on a captivating performance was evident, and it seemed like everyone, both on stage and in the audience, was having a fantastic time. The MC did an excellent job handling hecklers and keeping the audience engaged throughout the event.
While shots and cocktails were available for an additional charge, I found the selection of bottomless drinks provided with the meal to be more than sufficient. Unless you have a strong desire to go all out on the drinks, the included options should satisfy most patrons.
In conclusion, I highly recommend attending a Drag Show Brunch at Lips. This was my first time at the venue, and it turned out to be the best drag show event I've experienced thus far. The combination of the theme, crass humor, delicious food, talented performers, and friendly atmosphere made for an unforgettable Sunday brunch. I'm already looking forward to returning for another...
Read moreWent with a party of five to the Drag Gospel Brunch and have a LOT to say: First of all, book it. Just do it. All of the little hiccups we experienced were literally so minimal compared to the entire experience you walk away with. I’ll start off with the negatives because they’re pretty few: we were wedged into a dark box (literally painted black) table area and had two bartenders on break eating in the next table, so we pretty much felt like the losers at the cafeteria for a while, and we didn’t get much attention until the bundles of $1 bills we brought began flailing around in the air and filling the bucket. We took this with a grain of salt, though, because we pretty much booked the day before. So maybe that had something to do with our garbage table? If so, definitely book in advance to avoid this. Secondly, there were a couple of performers who hit the stage in masks… and in the iconic words of one RuPaul: “We need to see your lips. Take that thing off of your mouth.” I understand if they’re not vaccinated or if they themselves prefer to remain masked, but it definitely took away from the illusion. The queens still served the house down, but I wish the masks were clear or transparent, at least. The final qualm is that we had a high fashion queen as our waitress, and while she gave body, she started off peeved and it only got worse from then on. I’m all for a sassy queen, but if you’re also waiting a table, talk it up with us. We were on her side! She wasn’t having it. But everyone has off days. It’s okay. But OVERALL, we walked away so happy. The emcee will go down in my books as a baby Bianca Del Rio for her wit and talented comedic chops. Loved loved loved her! All the queens slayed, though. We happily gave bills after bills because the show was the absolute opposite of a letdown. This is the place to go for DRAG, baby! Oh, and the drinks and food really tied the experience together. It’s obviously not going to make Gordon Ramsay proud, but you’ll be thankful for a meal in between the unlimited alcoholic beverages during brunch. Trust me! Some of these comments complain about pricing, but for our party, we’ll happily pay it again in the near future and make it rain for these queens! A big big thank you to LIPS - San Diego. It...
Read moreI had called and made reservations Two weeks before my boyfriend’s birthday. A nice woman added our reservations and said we would be receiving a confirmation email shortly. Two or three days pass by without the email confirmation so I call back and leave a massage asking to confirm our reservation and said that we never received a confirmation email. This was imperative since the majority of party was not from the area. I get a call from someone named Charlie who happened to have a condescending tone and calling me “My dear” ever second they could. Again, they assured my I’d get a confirmation email and got nothing. I called back again (at this point this was ridiculous) and mentioned that we haven’t received a confirmation email. I confirmed my email and checked my spam folder with Charlie and again was rudely told not to worry because my card was on file.
Fast forward two weeks later we arrive to the venue for my boyfriends birthday brunch and guess what!? We are not on the list! Guess what else, they ask for a confirmation email lol!
I explained the situation to the manager who was amazing and very apologetic. He went above and beyond trying to accommodate our party. Apparently, somehow “someone” changed our reservation date to two weeks out. A person like Charlie should not be in a customer facing position. It really dampened our experience and I hope Lips teaches this person is proper customer service skills. Whatever your problems are, don’t brings those to work. Customers are not responsible for whatever it is you are going though.
Despite that little hiccup, we had a good time. The manager was incredibly attentive, the queens were fantastic, the food and drinks were great, and the rest of the staff...
