Iām going to need everyone reading this review to just take a seat because this is going to be a good one. For all those guys or girls out there looking to pop that question but donāt even know where to start just do yourself a favor and call Marrow and ask for Annie Nguyen she is one of the stylist at Marrow and the only one you should be requesting ( Iām sure all the stylist are good) but Nguyen is just simply amazing.
Itās all started with an email and a phone call and the rest is history... but for the people who want the details Iāll indulge you. The first FaceTime call with Annie (we are now on a first name basis now) I was so nervios and scared where do you even start, you hear and read about what should be looking at when you are ring shopping such as: the price, the color, the shape, the size, the weight, the clarity, the band, the prong design, and how you need to sell your kidney on top of your 3 months salary (before taxes) to buy a ring let alone a beautiful Marrow designed ring. Annie put my nervousness aside and just started to have a conversation with me not ring related to get to know who I am and what I am about to put me at ease. Then the conversation turned for the better and we started to talk about my girlfriend. Who she is, how we meet, what we like to do, you know the the basics. It was like I was having a casual conversation with one of my friends, it was super comforting.
After what seemed like forever (actually only 40 minutes) the smaller yet important questions started to be asked. Do you have a design in mind? Do you know what type of diamonds you want to use? Do you have her ring size? And then the real question BUDGET? I answered all those questions with a positive āI Donāt Knowā. Thinking she was going to roll her eyes tell me this conversation was over, hang up the call, and tell me I canāt be helped. It was quite the opposite. Annie told me thats why we just spent the last hour having this conversation to figure those items out. Then she told me I couldnāt be helped and I needed to find someone else crazy enough to take on this project... thatās when I knew she was definitely going to help me through this process and I felt so much less stressed.

Like almost everything in life there was a deadline. When I spoke to Annie in August I told her her I needed the ring by October 1st letās just say I could hear the entire office wishing us luck. The proposal was going to happen in Spain in October 2019 with or without the ring or it would of been literally over for me and like Annie fashion she said game on and she began sending me ideas and different designs.
I canāt tell you how much Annie helped me though this entire process. In the end (letās be real I did all the work) we came up with a stunning one of a kind custom Sapphire engagement ring with a Jean-Noel Soni stone. Also if you have seen his work ask about his work. His stones are super rare and unique. Itās worth both kidneys speaking from experience. I received photos, texts, and updates throughout the entire process. Even when I started to panic Annie assured me things were on schedule sometimes.
Two days before we departed to Spain the ring arrived and it was even more beautiful in person. Letās just say my girlfriend is now my fiancĆ© and I couldnāt be happier with all the help I got from Annie @ Marrow. The quality of the product is one thing but the amount of attention and services is another and Annie Nguyen knocked it out of the ballpark.

Thankfully after crawling around on my hands and knees, I found my diamond and immediately contacted the stylist that worked on my project. First, I requested my appraisal (which was never provided to me after picking up my ring and was still not provided to me after requesting it) and was told that she was planning to have a meeting with their production team in a week to discuss this, which was unacceptable. Within a day I contacted the boutique and spoke with Alysse, the store manager who finally provided me with my appraisal so that I could insure my ring and advised me to bring in my loose diamond and setting.
When I arrived at the boutique, rather than apologizing, Alysse went through a list of reasons for my stone falling out of the setting. Insinuating that I had bumped it, wore it swimming (I don't swim), and generally had not been careful with it. I explained to her how treasured the stone is to me as it has been in my family for generations, and that I do not wear it while cooking, showering, working out, or sleeping. After inspecting the setting, she concluded that there was nothing indicating damage that would have caused the stone to dislodge and asked to send it to their production team.
A few days later, I was contacted by Alysse who let me know that the Marrow production team determined that my diamond āisnāt perfectly round but the setting was made perfectly roundā, resulting in a gap between the stone and setting. This was incredibly frustrating and confusing as this should have been addressed multiple times during the production of my ring. From here I took my stone and empty setting to three other jewelers in San Diego to get another opinion. Unfortunately for Marrow, all three of them determined that there were no inconsistencies with the shape of my stone and instead, my setting had been cut completely incorrectly.
After returning to Marrow with this information, I felt that there was absolutely no way that I could ever trust them to touch my diamond again and requested a full refund. I was then contacted by Steph, their VP of Sales, who was kind and fair in actually taking accountability and providing me the first genuine apology throughout this nightmare of an experience.
Leading up to my conversation with their VP, Marrow neglected to provide any care or consideration for me or for a stone that has been passed through generations of my family. Throughout the design and production process, I received no communication unless I reached out first. After receiving my ring, I was never provided with care instructions or an appraisal. And after my diamond fell out of the setting that they ācustom madeā to fit my stone, their production and store team repeatedly attempted to find ways to skirt accountability and put it back on me. I will never return to Marrow as a client and would caution anyone interested in resetting an heirloom piece with them.
