UPDATE: I'll never step foot in this store again because they have moved to dumping everything in bins and expecting customers to dive through it. I have a shoulder injury and diving through bins of clothing that are completely unorganized (mixtures of literally everything men, women, children dumped together) is horrific. Bad business decision. This used to be my favorite thrift store and now it's just disappointing . The new management sucks and I will never go dumpster diving through your janky unsorted bins. I loved coming here for the super organized racks where I could find what I was looking for quickly. Now it's just a nightmare
I have been coming here for many years, but recent changes have made it not so great and I will be limiting my interactions moving forward
-no more daily colored tag discounts
-they refused to honor a full discount card I had because they stopped accepting them recently. I literally finished the discount card the previous week
-every employee is rude regardless of how nice you are and acts like you are in their way
-checkout lines are always long without enough employees at the cash registers
-tried to purchase a pillow that had the tag stapled on it but because the tag "was not stapled in two places" I was told I couldn't purchase the pillow. Long ongoing issue of not being able to price something immediately. Instead, they insist you wait for 24 hours to return to the store to purchase the item. Oftentimes this is not feasible for people who have jobs or lives to spend additional time and gas money to buy a second hand, used item.
-the prices haves drastically increased akin to goodwill pricing which illustrates the businesses commitment to its owners and CEOs and not the community and population served by second hand clothing stores. They should be affordable....
Read moreI don't get to Amvets Thrift Store too often because of the distance from where I live. Though if I am going to be in that area I am always up for a good search through the ever changing items in this rather large thrift store. Most of the store is centered around clothing and clothing for work ( ie. waiter or waitress, scrubs etc ) They have an electronics section which I have to say; usually the items are not in as good condition as Goodwill but you will often find a diamond in the ruff item that you may not have been looking for but your glad you found it. There are furniture items there are blankets and sheets housewares kitchen items and the store is often very busy which is great because you can go on a Monday and by Friday they have restocked most of the shelves with new items. They have certain discounts for each day of the week using different color tags and they offer military discounts for active and retired military, and Senior discounts. The prices are very reasonable, I don't think I've ever walked out of Amvets without at least one or two purchases per visit. Hopefully you will find something that catches your eye and makes you happy when you shop there. Be safe, take care and smile...
Read moreFavorite thrift store in San Diego. They discount based on a tag system that relates a color to the week an item gets priced. I believe there is red, yellow, green, white and blue. Most of the time, they're discounting three of them at once for 50% off! They also have a military discount of 15% which stacks on top of any color tag discount. I haven't even mentioned the best part, and the method I recommend to peruse their store: They've split out large furniture and art work from the rest of the items into the warehouse adjacent to their larger parking lot. I recommend looking through there first and setting aside any items you would like with the staff (they'll give you a receipt to take with you to the main store). After that, head to the main store and check out the top shelf items in the front behind the counter first. You'd be amazed at the things you'll find. Once done, peruse the rest of the main store at your leisure. I literally bought a box full of Legos for $40 the other day, along with 4 generations of iPhones for $14. I now display a working iPhone "2G" on my desk because it makes me laugh. Check this place out, it doesn't hurt that it helps a...
