From the moment we got engaged, I knew I wanted my dress to be unique ~ however, I got blindsided with the proposal and literally had NO clue what I wanted. I just knew I wanted it to remind me of the ocean (it's my now-husband's and my sacred place) and to be unique. Not the easiest jumping off point, I know!
I found Lace & Liberty through a quick online search; they were located in a neighborhood I knew well, and I'd heard them mentioned in passing, so I scheduled an online consultation with Rozie. It was all over from there ~ I was blown away at how passionate and excited she was to create my dream dress. I kept thinking there was no way I was her client (and of course I wasn't!) but she and the entire L&L team made me feel like the most important person in the world.
I visited the studio to try different styles, and after fretting over three different looks, I ended up choosing the one cut I was sure wouldn't work on me. I was very wrong ~ Rozie took down every request I had, down to the pockets, number of layers, length of the train, and how easily I could twirl in the skirt. She sourced material in various shades of blue specifically for the skirt. She went to extreme lengths to make sure the layers were light, comfortable, and looked exactly (to me) like a crashing ocean wave.
Joy and Danielle followed up constantly to make sure I was happy with what I was seeing so far, and by the time I picked up the dress, I couldn't believe how much of a dream-come-true it was. I actually felt guilty; I've heard so many horror stories about bridal gowns, but this was the easiest decision I had to make. Absolutely every single detail was perfect.
The most wonderful part of working with this incredible group of women is their dedication ~ not only were they truly invested in making sure I was thrilled with my decision, Rozie made it very clear to me from day 1 that she would also stay within any financial limitations. I'd visited several other boutiques previously, and L&L was the only one that didn't try to upsell me or dismiss my concerns on cost. Their primary goal is you.
If you're looking for a genuine bridal experience where all your needs and wants are seen to and everyone around you is committed to your happiness set up a call with Lace & Liberty. Go visit their showroom and check out the hand detailed corsets, bodices, skirts, and gowns. Take a look at their studio and soak in the vibes of all the happy brides that came before you. If I could recommend them 10x, I would Rozie, Joy and Danielle, I truly love you for making our wedding day everything I ever dreamed of. Thank you, thank...
Read moreMy wedding dress journey started as a lonely sad scene when visiting other SF stores, but ended nothing short of magical after going here! A long review coming up...
I stumbled upon Nancy at Lace and Liberty by some miraculous stroke of luck after trying dresses I hated elsewhere (I lived just up the road but hadn't thought I could ever have a dress from here). With Nancy's expertise, I crafted the most special dress for my big day. I can't thank her enough!
I live 5,000 miles away from my best gals and my mum (my entire bridal party is overseas & on a different timezone), so when it came time to shop for my dress, I wanted honest feedback, not just sweet compliments from new friends. All my new friends were telling me I looked great in everything (which was nice of them), but most of the dresses just did not feel like me. That's where Nancy saved the day.
After some back-and-forth (on my side because I'm indecisive), she offered to meet me solo one evening to bring my vision to life. Just me and Nancy, no entourage of kind new friends. We found the dress and it was such a mix of emotions—gratitude for their kindness and a tinge of loneliness, picking my dress without my loved ones by my side. Nancy felt like the friend I needed at that moment - which sounds insane as I hardly know her, but she was just so supportive, honest and kind. Most girls remember their wedding dress shopping because it was such a lovely time with their family or bridal party. I will remember mine for how kind Nancy was.
Anyway, fast forward to sharing a photo of my dress with my best pal of 15 years, and her response was pure gold. She said Nancy designed a dress that was "me" in the best possible way... Even my hair stylist—another close friend overseas— said she's no longer going to anything too wild with my hair because she knew the dress deserved all the spotlight. This was truly the ONLY dress in San Francisco that suited my personality, and it was designed by Lace and Liberty.
Speaking of the dress, it fits like a glove, but I'm opting for a few tweaks around the chest area to ensure absolute perfection. I plan to wear it for a solid 12 hours and hide an old tattoo so I will alter it a tiny bit, but it's SO perfectly fitting otherwise (honestly, I cannot explain how well it fits). I keep putting it on at home when nobody's around - should probably stop that before I ruin it.
HUGE thank you to Nancy and the Lace and Liberty team—thank you from the bottom...
Read moreI highly highly recommend this shop for your wedding dress! Before coming to L&L, I went to a different store that frankly had boring and unflattering dresses for $4,000+. The woman who I worked with had worked in retail her whole life and didn't know much about the actual dresses. Then I came to Lace & Liberty, where I worked with Rozie. First of all, Rozie (along with the team) designs the dresses herself so she has so much knowledge of what customizations are or are not possible. In my very first try-on, she was telling me "we can replace the bodice", "we can get rid of the pearls", etc. Second of all, Rozie was just an incredible treat to work with. Even when I thought "oh this is good enough", Rozie is dedicated to making sure the dress is literally perfect.
In the end, I wanted a wedding dress with a touch of red (but not too much!) as a nod to my mixed half-American half-Chinese heritage. Rozie sourced ombre white-to-red fabric for me that was perfect. She gave me lots of photos of the entire process, from sourcing fabric to previewing the dress to "this is the dress in the factory do you want any more changes". When I tried the dress on, it was exactly what I had expected because I had been brought along the journey the entire time. I then brought the dress to the seamstress because I had been told that you will still need a few alterations. My seamstress was shocked at how well the dress fit--no need for hemming, no adjustments needed to the waist. My initial fitting with the seamstress took literally less than 10 minutes because the dress fit so perfectly.
At the end of the day, I got a unique custom dress for less than the price of off-the-rack dresses at other stores. I also got to work with Rozie--I wish I could work with her more often! I will definitely be recommending this store to all of my friends getting married in the...
