Forget everything you know about playgrounds—Outpost Playground at Presidio Tunnel Tops is in a league of its own. It's a truly spectacular destination that perfectly balances an imaginative play space for kids with a breathtaking, serene environment for adults. My recent visit proved that this is more than just a place to play; it's a place to connect with nature and take in some of the city's most iconic sights. What sets Outpost apart is its incredible design. Eschewing the typical plastic structures, this playground is a "nature-based" wonderland, built with natural materials like wood, stone, sand, and water. Kids can explore a giant fallen tree trunk that has been transformed into a climbing structure, or test their balance on a challenging wooden wall. The play areas are thoughtfully separated into different zones, catering to toddlers with a soft-floored area and sand pits, and to older kids with more adventurous climbing nets and rope bridges. It's truly a place where children of all ages can challenge themselves and let their imaginations run wild. While the kids are busy, the adults are in for a treat. The playground is strategically situated to offer some of the most stunning panoramic views in San Francisco. From almost any spot, you're treated to a postcard-perfect view of the Golden Gate Bridge stretching across the bay, the sparkling waters of Crissy Field beach, and the dramatic Marin Headlands in the distance. The ample seating, including benches made from repurposed fallen cypress trees, makes it the perfect spot for parents and friends to relax, chat, and soak in the scenery without losing sight of the kids. The surrounding Presidio Tunnel Tops park adds to the experience, with its beautiful walking paths, lush gardens, and expansive lawns. Food trucks are often on-site, providing a convenient and delicious way to grab a bite without having to leave the area. The entire space feels like a well-integrated urban oasis—a place where you can feel miles away from the city while still being in the heart of it all. In short, Outpost Playground is a masterpiece of public space design. It’s a win-win for everyone, offering endless fun for the little ones and unparalleled beauty for the grown-ups. It's the perfect place for a family outing, a picnic with friends, or simply to find a moment of peace while enjoying one of the best views in San Francisco. We will...
Read moreThe Outpost playground at Presidio Tunnel Tops is a true gem for families!
The play area is creative and engaging. The restrooms were spotless and well-maintained. I love the natural feel of the park with all the greenery, and the on-site cafe is a great convenience for grabbing a quick drink or snack. A heads-up for visitors: it can get quite chilly, even in the summer, so be sure to bring layers. The cool temperature is worth it, though, for the stunning, picture-perfect views of the Golden Gate Bridge from the park. Parking is available in paid lots nearby. For those looking to explore the area on two wheels, there's a convenient bike rental options available, which is perfect for a ride around the Presidio or toward the bridge. A must-visit for...
Read moreWe go there often, and unfortunately we got the worst of both worlds. Going in everything was fenomenal. After a while my younger child, 3 year old was, was bullied in what I thought was just once in a climbing ride, spider web, by a kid wanting to throw him down, 7-8 year old, no parents around. I did not give it much of a thought, but my 3 year old was claiming a mini rock climb and this random kid, same as before punch him down. My wife got my kid, and asked me to talk to the kids parents, and I did not know who they where. Bully is a real deal even if you live in an influential neighborhood and believe your kids are always good. We talked to one of the kids, people working, and just was told they are busy. I really hope things like...
