Best New Getaway Hotel in San Francisco
My wife and I were fortunate to stay in this recently opened small historic hotel in the Presidio Park (a national park site) in San Francisco.
The location is nothing short of spectacular, particularly if you are looking for great outdoor activities. Out the front door you have the Presidio's Main Parade grounds, visitors center, historic Officers' Club, Disney Museum and Transit Center (offering express bus service to downtown). Out the back door you are looking at the Golden Gate Bridge, which is just a short, scenic, walk away.
The hotel itself is small, with highly personal touches. It is a clever renovation of an 1895 enlisted men's barracks but so completely modern inside, you'd never know you were in an old building. We moved the fireplace in the breakfast room and the front hall sitting areas. Our room was large and spacious, with views of San Francisco bay and Marin County as well as views of the San Francisco skyline.
The bed in our room was the most comfortable I've ever experienced in a hotel and resulted in a wonderful night's sleep. The room included a stocked bar and mini-fridge, safe, free wi-fi, and all the other expected modern conveniences. The towels were soft and fluffy and plentiful.
We ate dinner in the nearby Arguello, an early Californian/Mexican restaurant with a beautiful sheltered outdoor patio. We really enjoyed this restaurant although there are several others withing walking distance of the Lodge.
The room charge includes a breakfast buffet, which includes all the usual good breakfast alternatives, including oatmeal, fresh fruit, cereals, pastries, meats and cheeses. Everything was delicious.
Of most note was the service. We were warmly greeted by Jose at the front desk, who helped get us settled and oriented. Throughout our stay, he and others were most friendly and helpful. The Lodge is pet friendly, and Jose really helped our miniature Labradoodle, Rosie, settle in.
In short, this is a great option for your next stay in San Francisco. Highly...
Read moreI had the pleasure of staying at The Lodge at the Presidio, and I can't recommend it enough! This beautiful property, originally barracks from the 1800s, has been wonderfully repurposed, maintaining its historic charm while offering a truly elevated experience. The blend of history and modern luxury creates a unique atmosphere that is both relaxing and upscale.
The rooms are stunning, featuring high-end amenities that ensure a comfortable stay. Each room is beautifully decorated, and I loved the attention to detail. One of the best parts was the complimentary breakfast, which offered a delicious variety of options to start the day off right. Additionally, the evening wine and cheese reception was a lovely touch, providing a perfect way to unwind and connect with fellow guests. I especially appreciated the many fun perks, like complimentary bikes for exploring the nearby trails, which added an extra layer of enjoyment to my visit.
Located in the heart of the Presidio, on the main post along the parade grounds, it could not be better placed. The Lodge also provides easy access to some of San Francisco's best attractions. While parking is paid, it’s conveniently close by. The attentive staff made my experience even better, they were always friendly and ready to help.
Beautiful decor throughout the Lodge pays homage to its military history, with striking elements that remind you of its past. The outdoor area is a real highlight, complete with fire pits where you can unwind while enjoying stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge. I found myself relaxing in a rocking chair on the front porch, taking in the fresh air and surroundings.

Read moreLocation is amazing. You can see the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay from the hotel. I saw the bridge from my room. The hotel is located inside what was a former US Army building. My room was smallish but it has very nice amenities and modern conveniences. I was initially tripped by the bathroom not lighting up when I turned on the power switch. Only after calling the front desk was I told to put in one of the room keys into a slot by the door in order to activate the lights. I guess it was a power saving measure. The continental breakfast is good: various muffins, breads, cheeses, deli meats, coffee, orange juice, grapefruit juice, water, and oatmeal. Wi-fi was good. The front of the building has a porch with several rocking chairs for your use. I used it to watch the picnic that was held on Sundays. You'll see what was the main parade ground when the Presidio was an Army base. Presidio Picnic is held on Sundays so you can join in on the food trucks and bars. Next door is the Disney museum. There's a fire pit on the back side where you can sit and enjoy the fire. There are plenty of bike and hiking trails nearby. Parking isn't free. The parking lot that most hotel guests uses charge $10/weekday and $11/weekend. When checking in, ask about the parking and they'll give you a tag to hang from the rearview mirror. Parking will be added to your bill. Overall, I recommend this hotel. I would've given it 5 stars except when I initially checked in, the clerk told me my room wasn't ready and to expect a phone call from the hotel to let me know that it's ready. Of course, that...
